Love this place. They always have interesting specials; great vibe suiting catching ups with friends. It is a quirky and artistic venue that is a Melbourne institution. Friendly service; delicious food, good value for money and overall great place.

Went here for dinner with three other friends. Their online booking system and 2hour blocking is good, it makes dinner so easy to organise! Colonel Tan's has a great vibe, with a casual atmosphere. We ordered three entrees and three mains to share which was a reasonable sized meal. The chilli prawns were overcooked which was a shame, but it was made up for by the corn fritters and the green chicken curry. Food came out quickly and was really tasty.

A kitschy fitout in Revolver. An interesting place to have one of the best Thai food in Melbourne. The kitchen is rather small but the Thai chefs produce delicious food and hits the spot. I wasn't a fan of the ambience, given the dilapidated tables and chairs, extremely dim red lighting, music that was way too loud, weird location in a alternative bar. Will be back if I crave their food again.. yum!

Had a booking at Colonel Tan's for 7:30pm on a Saturday night. Venue is up a large flight of stairs (beware if you have a heart condition or are obese) and is not actually signed when you get there. I personally find this totally pretentious. Lighting was low and seating was half chairs half couches. This place could be mistaken for a club rather than a restaurant. We had booked and were seated right away. Upon ordering we were told food would be 10 minutes. The reason this came up is because we were still waiting on two people but went ahead and ordered as food was to be shared. 1 hour later we had to ask of the whereabouts of our food. The waiter apologised - they had forgotten us! He brought the receipt over to confirm our order then we proceeded to wait another 10-20 minutes until being served. I wish I could say it was worth the wait but alas it was not. There were 7 of us; 5 meat eaters and 2 vegetarians. The meat eaters enjoyed their five-spice chicken, lamb panang, fat duck noodles and bankok bolognaise. However the waiters recommendation of morning glory with fermented tofu was an utter let down. The bowl was so small it could hardly be called a main meal. The tofu was so fermented it was just liquid in the broth - unrecognisable and no actual pieces. Thus leaving the meal a serve of green beans and spinach only. The other dish which was cheaper was the brocolli and avocado rice salad with fried egg and this was at least an adequate size dish. Bland but good. At the end of our meal we were given 20% off all the food to compensate for our long wait. This did not however make up for the poor service (we had to keep going to the bar to get our own jugs of water and were not asked during our meal if anyone wanted anymore drinks) and average value for money on the food front. It did not help it was a Saturday night, the DJ music was loud and did not allow for audible conversation at the table. Overall this was a pretty bad dining experience perhaps only enjoyed by hipsters. I would not recommend Colonel Tan's or go back.

Approximate cost: $10-$12
