THIS WAS A GREAT HOTEL IN IT'S TIME, CATERING FOR CELEBRITIES, INCLUDING AMERICAN PRESIDENTS, BUT FROM MY EXPERIENCE IT'S DAY HAS GONE AS NEWER, MODERN HOTELS POP UP IN CANBERRA.
I HAVE STAYED THERE BEFORE, MAINLY FOR CONVENIENCE AND THE LOW TARIFF, THIS VISIT $114 INCLUDING VENUE, BUT THIS TIME I REALISED THERE ARE BETTER OPTIONS, in my mind.
THE ROOM I STAYED IN, 209, WAS SMALL, THE TV AN OLD ANALOGUE WITH POOR RECEPTION, THE TWO IN HOUSE MOVIE CHANNELS NOT BEING ABLE TO BE AXCESSED AT ALL.
PLUS THE FACT THE TV WAS POSITIONED SO YOU COULDN'T WATCH IT FROM THE BED, HAVING TO SIT IN THE ONE CHAIR OR ON THE FLOOR,
THE ROOM WAS SMALL AND OBVIOUSLY OUTDATED, BUT IT HAD A GOOD SIZED BATHROOM, WELL FITTED OUT WITH A GOOD SHOWER.
THE INCLUDED BREAKFAST COULDN'T BE FAULTED , A GOOD VARIETY WITH PLENTY TO CHOOSE FROM, WAY BETTER THAN THE NOVATEL IN THE CBD.
DINNER AT NIGHT COULDN'T BE RATED, AS THEUY HAVE THE RESTAURANT OPEN MID WEEK, BUT FOR SOME REASON SHUT IT AT THE WEEKENDS
THE BAR DOESN'T EXIST.
THE STAFF THOUGH COULDN'T BE FAULTED, ATTENTIVE, WELL PRESENTED AND ALWAYS THERE WHEN NEEDED.
A GOOD VALUE HOTEL FOR OVERNIGHT, BUT IF YOU WANT TO STAY IN CANBERRA FOR LONGER, I WOULD BE EXPLORING OTHER OPTIONS

Approximate cost: $114

Stayed at the Rex twice. The rooms are quite spacious and the bed was very comfortable. The service depends on whoever is on duty. On some days, they are quite nice but I've met one who was really rude when she couldnt find our reservations details. She found it in the end and the manager apologised to us.

We had the king deluxe. But was two king singles pushed together
The fridge was turned off so everything inside was warm (cheese)
Room was very far from the lift
Room service was horrible. Ravioli was not fresh made. Obviously shop bought frozen. Chicken schnitzel was again store bought and not chef made.
Only good thing is fresh towels each day

Approximate cost: $150

I started to right a long review about this place but after much deliberation i will let you know this
*157 for 3 people for 1 night INCLUDES buffet breakfast.
*We arrived for Breakfast at 8am. Still stacks to choose from and very fresh.
*Restaurant available on site (Don't get the crispy chicken salad, its mainly lettuce)
*Indoor pool, Sauna and gym available to all guests.
*Staff friendly and helpful.
*Plenty of towels, face washers, floor mats available to us.
*Check out was 11am.
Its clean and good for an over night stay.

Approximate cost: $157

The Canberra Rex Hotel is often easier to get into than other hotels in the CBD area, as it's about a 10-15 minute walk from the CBD. I personally enjoyed the small walk and was happy for the slightly cheaper accommodation.

The hotel has all the facilities you would want - indoor pool, free off street parking, sauna, bar and restaurant. My only complaint is that the room I had was a queen bed, but it was actually 2 single beds pushed together which I don't like as there's a big crack down the middle! I'm sure they would have rooms which have proper queen size beds rather than 2 singles pushed together.
