I have seen a family friend suffer at the hands of A1 Granny Flats. They have been so stressed out due to lack of communication where their emails, text messages and phone calls have been left unanswered and ignored. They were reliant of this build to take care of an elderly parent and there has been no work on their site for 4 months. The work on site is of poor quality and many defects remain outstanding.

From what I have witnessed this is not a company that works by honesty or integrity and would steer clear at all costs.

Completed Granny Flat in 17-20 weeks. Was expected with covid and rain delays. I had another 2 friends who built at similar times, 1 finished before me and the other is still going. But it was the follow ups that got me through the ordeal. Had great communication with Ron the sales rep who has left the company but was more than happy to assist me with finalizing OC. He always told me, he believed in good Karma. And would physically do anything he was feasibly able to do. The finish product is amazing, its the journey they could work more on.

I do not recommend A1 Granny Flats at all. Unfinished after 18 months, no communication, no empathy. They do not care. Pretty quick to return your calls and emails until they get your money

I am having the same problems are everyone else - no replies to any questions , lies & promises they never keep , weeks with no work on site.
Have complained to ACCC & other company regulators

A1 no communication, intimidation, lies ,non payment of invoices, do not honour the contract, never use this company even a toilet would take 12mnths
WoW ..just WoW ... so in the 2nd last email from A1 (before they tried to intimidate me with the cops) they stated they would give me the paperwork from the WaterBoard CoOrdinator when it becomes available - it was suggested by my New Builder to call the WaterBoard CoOrdinator direct ... GUESS WHAT ...those arseholes were never going to get that paperwork as they have NOT payed the invoice - so guys I am now up for another $1540.00 to get the paperwork we need at the time of the OC inspection so A1 has another $1540...in their pocket from me which I imagine was a part of the monies already paid to them by me ...WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK ...

First I would very much like to say thank you to all of the support of our Biking Family this has shown me through this 12 months of trauma we have suffered at the hands of A1 Granny Flats ... they have lowered them selves to the lowest level of their own fear ...due to the fact that I insisted on them amending paperwork to reflect the correct amount I paid into the account direct to A1 & I also asked a reasonable question of explanation... they have decided we are a threat due to our active involvement with the biking community. & stated I threatened them ...I didn't threaten them..as much as I might like to show our power it would not serve our purpose & what we stand for in this community ...they can wallow in their ignorance ..they also don't seem to be aware there are some 30+ complaints against their practices.. some being lodged with NCAT & many have already been lodged with Fair Trade ...

As such, to consider this matter closed, we will require the 2 statutory declarations to be signed, witnessed, and returned to us electronically by both yourself and Greg (both owners of 8 Matheson Avenue, North Richmond). As per my previous correspondence, we will require these documents to be emailed to us electronically ONLY and now given the seriousness of your allegations made against us and your active involvement in your “motorcycle community” we feel extremely threatened and intimidated and should you attempt to visit our display centre, we will be contacting the police and charging you with trespass.
I would also like to notify you for the record that we have filed documents with the NSW Police Force for intimidation and threats made online to our business via Facebook.

What these totally unprofessional business people fail to comprehend I am not the only unhappy client with their performance...
Threatening me with Police involvement due to my active involvement in the biking community is ludicrous & does not phase me as I did not threaten them in anyway or form....they obviously are totally uneducated as to our position & what we do ... however I again would not recommend A1 as a builder if you want a build without major mental trauma...do your due diligence
Again I really am humbled by your support & thank you from the bottom of my heart ...I wish I had the fight left in me to fight these idiots via the NCAT tribunal but I don't ...I do however wish those who are the very best & the very best out come from your time spent in this fight ... We are currently building with A1 Granny Flats. Communication and keeping us informed about our build is definitely not one of their strong points. Emails back and forth but you never get anywhere and still walk away with no idea when it will all be over. Promises of weekly updates and schedules have never occurred.
A1 Granny Flats promised a 12 week build. A1 Granny Flats handed the wrong things into council 3 times.
We signed the contract in November 2020 and construction didn’t start til July 2021.
A1 Granny Flats claim that Covid lockdowns, trade, material shortages and weather were at fault for the excessive build time. Our 20m2 studio construction site still takes up our backyard and driveway. A1 continue to give practical completion estimates and say they are actively completing the contract but make no real effort to get things done.
We have watched friends and neighbours knockdown old houses and build huge new houses as well as move back in while we wait to have our studio built. Other builders had trades, materials and dry weather to complete much larger builds while our studio sat week after week.
Management have all of the answers and excuses. Everything is covered in the small print of the contract Whenever we expressed our concerns we were made to feel like our build would become the top of their priorities. We were told we would have our family staying in the studio for Christmas 2021. Later we were ‘promised’ it would finished by January 2022. This treatment then turned and we were treated as the ones with the problem, we were being completely unreasonable.
As I searched for answers I found negative reviews kept coming up on their Facebook page and Google reviews. Client after client with similar stories. A1 Granny Flats eventually had all Facebook reviews removed. They are selectively hiding negative Google reviews and misleading potential customers. This is not fair and genuine practice!
Our slab has been poured crooked with areas missing. It had to be jackhammered off and will be rendered back to size. The roof is visibly out as you walk inside. The windows are scratched and out of alignment with huge gaps left between the window frame and the cladding. They have since been ‘serviced’ but appear to still have faults. The wrong kitchen was installed with major components missing. The downpipes are not connected so water floods the site. Yes they say they will fix it all but when?
Rubbish was left all over the site and until I asked for a rubbish cage. It took 4 months and the site was covered in sharp, dangerous building waste, rotting fruit, milk containers and random rubbish. There has been no sediment control installed as per the developmental consent. Pipes were broken. Leaking sewerage left in our yard for a week. After the the dirt containing the sewerage.The painter started painting with a cheaper paint than the contract. Whenever we complain the trades are blamed or we are reminded that they have said multiple times that they will fix it. We are being unreasonable! They are still completing the project! We feel it has been an unreasonable amount of time. We have given time for Covid lockdowns, bad weather, trade and material delays yet with all those allowances they are still 2 months over the contracted time. Nearing 12 months for a 12 week contract! It might have been easier to get through the time if the delays had been explained to us but other than one email about the Covid lockdown we were left in the dark. No communication about what was coming or why it was delayed. Maybe a reasonable amount of time for a house but not a tiny studio!
We just sit and wait, powerless.
We have no confidence in the MBA logo or the assistance from Fairtrade NSW and the NCAT process.
A1 Granny Flats do not act with honesty, integrity and responsibility. They cover themselves and give you excuses and lies.
It’s unfair that we should have to wait for them to finish in their own time when they have the majority of our money in their pockets and so much work left to do.
