stayed here during the easter long weekend.
I was lucky to ask for the courtyard room. I need the extra space.
The bathroom is tiny in comparison and floods outside the shower cubicle when you shower.
location is great, the courtyard has a table and 2 chairs.
comfortable bed
very clean but too small for long stay :(
Would probably stay in the courtyard room again during a one or two night stay

when enquiring about prices for a weekend stay, the staff at the front desk were quite rude and blunt to me. despite this, I still booked here for my partner and I for two nights as its location was exactly what I was looking for. when arriving at the hotel we were greeted by staff that looked as though they were having the worst day of their lives, except this seemed to be a recurring thing. the room was small but that is what I had expected. it was equipped with a TV which was great and the bathroom was so small you could barely shower properly. I paid $180 a night and definitely will not be staying there again, and have found much better/friendlier places within Melbourne city.

Approximate cost: $180

I've heard mixed reports about this hotel and their tiny rooms, so I was rather hesitant to stay here. I booked a newer double room as I thought I'd have more space than the older rooms.
When I arrived they upgraded me to a triple and I have to say I was really impressed (maybe as I had low expectations to begin with).

For $115 I got a decent sized room with a huge TV, and some mould on the roof which I tried not to look at. The bed was incredibly comfortable and the room was clean.
The bathroom was very compact, similar to the size of a bathroom on a cruise ship.
The sink was impossible to use without wetting your feet, ie don't try to wash your face as there's no space to splash.

But for $115 I had a good night's sleep, breakfast at the cafe, free wifi and a glass of champagne.

The service at the front desk isn't the best, and I didn't get all the inclusions I had paid for but I couldn't be bothered to argue the point.

Don't bother with the cafe though. The breakfast is fine -European style breakfast, but the dinner is not worth the incredibly slow wait.

There's a tram stop right outside the door and it's a short walk to Southern Cross station, surrounded by so many other hotels, cafes, shops etc.

For that price I'd stay there again by myself, although I wouldn't stay there with my family.
For someone who doesn't intend to spend much time in the hotel room I think it's great value.

I would recommend you get one of the newer rooms by the sound of it though.

Approximate cost: $115

I am interested to read your review of the Pensione as I noticed it on a recent trip to Melbourne and wondered what it was like. It is certainly in a very convenient location. For Melbourne the price is most reasonable. Well done in finding such a good deal!

This place is disgusting!! I recommend it be avoided at all costs!

Yes the price is cheap, but you get what you pay for! Our room was tiny, cramped, cold and mouldy. Literally mouldy. there was mould all over the bathroom, on the bedroom roof and in the carpet! Nothing was properly cleaned either.

The bed was uncomfortable and the bathroom was very difficult to use due to its small size.

We were in a courtyard room, the courtyard was old and filthy and there were people smoking out there constantly which meant that not only were we getting their second hand smoke in our non smoking room but we were kept awake by people chatting and drinking very late in to the night.

Overall this hotel was a huge disappointment, and there are many many hotels for a similar price that far surpass it.

Approximate cost: $100.00

tiny room, tiny bathroom ( couldn't sit on the toilet seat properly because the sink was over the top of it), and when my partner and i first walked in the room and looked out the window (facing other room windows across a garden) there was a big naked bald woman in a room window and it was quite scary (not a joke!), i would avoid this hotel in Melbourne and stay somewhere else!

Overall the rooms were quite well priced for the area. But the rooms were quite small - ok for 1, but when sharing a room with someone else the issue of space becomes an issue.

Bathrooms are VERY small - and the doors are a little see through (also a problem when sharing a room with a work colleague).

The quality of the rooms was very good - everything has been recently re done so it is all very clean and tidy.

Service was great - extra blankets that were requested were delivered straight away.

Approximate cost: $140/night
