As soon as we signed and paid our deposit it was all down hill from there. Given the unprecedented times Leonda were not only not accommodating but made up additional fees which were not on our signed contract which was astonishing and which they then agreed to waive. It was only when we said we were canceling that they kept offering multiple incentives to keep us. But their aggressive tactics initially to lock us in, broken promises & unwilling to be accommodating in these uncertain times is what stopped us from continuing with them. We never went ahead with our second deposit luckily.
It is a popular venue and this may have been their reason for their reluctance to work on a solution suited for the both of us not just Leonda. Dont pick this venue, especually in the times, they'll say what ever to take your money to help their business's cashflows in these times. Thats more important to them than your cashflows or your interests. Please note theres plenty of other better venues in the area who are not only more affordable but much more acommodating.

Hi Shant, thank you for taking the time to leave this feedback.
Were sorry that you feel the cancellation of your event didnt occur in the way you had hoped. As you said, these are unprecedented times, and we have been trying to adjust our business practises to reflect this whilst still maintaining as much normality as possible so that we can keep our staff employed and our suppliers paid. It is a very difficult and emotional time for all concerned, and we empathise with your challenges (as we are facing our own as well.)
As discussed with you at length, several options were presented to you regarding your wedding plans. (1) The option to postpone, with two dates offered, one with complimentary upgrades as it was a different day of the week. This option also allowed for an adjustment to your payment schedule, meaning that you wouldnt have to submit a part-payment during these uncertain times. (2) The option to proceed as planned with your original date, but place a second date on hold in case restrictions were not lifted by October (understandably, this required adherence to the original payment plan terms as signed off by you). Or finally, (3) the regrettable option of cancelling your event. As your wedding was booked for October, the standard cancellation clause from our terms and conditions applied to this scenario, being that October is 7 months from April (which was when you commenced discussion with us, and when restrictions were predicted to last 6 months). We tried extremely hard to work with you and communicate clearly our needs and our goals, the first and foremost of which was to support our clients as they all made difficult and upsetting decisions regarding their booked events. To hear that despite our clear communications and offers of compromise, you are still upset, is not something we take lightly. We are sorry, but we must maintain our stance for the protection of our team.
We hope that you and Natalie are able to find a location for your wedding day which is perfect for you both and which allows you to create happy memories for your future together. Sincerely, the Leonda and Maple Event Group team.

1. We were dedicated a wedding co-ordinator - we didn't get one! We didn't get a service we were provided given we wanted to meet with you guys a few times but was told not yet until we get a dedicated co-ordinator for you.
2. Due to our 250+ numbers we didn't want to pay a $22.5k deposit 6 months out with the uncertainty that it might not go ahead so we asked for a 2 week extension beyond our 6 month date as more clarity would be provided by then. The response was 'If you do wish for your wedding day to remain on 17th October 2020, we need to take the 50% payment. This is to ensure you have an event coordinator to assist you on the lead up to the big day and as mentioned above, ensure we are in a great financial position to come out the other end of COVID-19.'
All the options you are talking about happened afterrrrr we said we were cancelling! The options you raised with me is the options that I requested from you initially which you didn't accept! So I cancelled as you were not being accommodating. So don't you go tell me you were accommodating and provided me options. You only provided once I cancelled. How dare you make it sound like you gave me plenty of options before I cancelled and make me look unreasonable.
I feel sorry for those people that have paid their deposits and that you are trying to get to postpone so you don't loose that booking.
3- You then try and slug me a $1k admin fee to postpone my event to another date when it is not even stated in my contract! That is just robbery! I feel sorry for those which have paid this.
4- I also do have in writing the initial price quoted for a winter wedding postponement and the price that I was quoted for postponement. There was approx a $40 difference in the price per head. Again Robbery! You tried to take advantage of the people that had paid their initial deposit.
5- We have booked a better venue, with a much less price tag, with people who are much more accommodating.
6- I am going to make it my mission to inform the public and broadcast your tactics so this doesn't happen to anyone else especially during these periods. You cannot take people for a ride like this.

absolutely gorgeous place, a gem away from the hustle and bustle of melbourne cbd (it's in hawthorn)

easy to get to through public transport (you can even get there by boat!) and heaps of parking spaces available

agreed though, can't go in through extra long limos

depending on which room you're at we were at the one near the waterfront - nice and cozy but not too small

staff were lovely and food was decent too

leonda by the river was our first choice. If you speak to the staff and see what they have on offer, their selection of food, the location and setting is amazing.

Only thing is some extra-long limos wont fit down the drive way.

Hi Stephanie, thank you so much for your lovely review :)

this place doesn't just take weddings, went here for a science club ball, so it was generally from ages 12 - 25 (the people who attended)

we had one of the smaller rooms, which was quite nice

great location: close to public transport and a lot of parking spaces (we drove there) absolutely loved the fact that it really was by the yarra, we would go outside to the dock after dancing for some cool views and breeze

food was decent, toilets were clean

wasn't a fan of the photographer though, but oh well

Approximate cost: $80

Thank you for your review! :-)

We had our wedding reception there last November and everything was perfect! There is nothing negative to be said about Leonda by the Yarra in Hawthorn. Our wedding planner Erin was a dream to work with- she made sure that our wedding ran smoothly and was exactly what we wanted. Because we had some traditional Polish customs to be held at the wedding reception, Erin made sure that they were catered for. My family was left happy knowing that Leonda cared for our culture and traditions.
The food at our reception was outstanding. Being a very "foodie" couple, what we served to our guests at our reception was extremely important to us. Everyone commented about how professional the servers were, how fantastic the food was, how good the portions were, and most importantly- how delicious the food was!
The Garden Room (which we used for our wedding reception) looked beautiful on the day. We really couldn't have picked a more exquisite venue for our reception.
Huge thanks to Leonda for making our day so memorable!!

Approximate cost: $high, but reasonable

We couldn't have picked a better venue for our wedding reception. The delicious food and the fact there was so much is still being talked about to this day by our guests! The ballroom looked amazing and there was no stress as the staff took care of every thing!

Approximate cost: $Medium. We were quoted $15 per head more at other places that were nowhere near as good as Leonda

A gorgeous setting for our wedding celebration. The food, staff and service was outstanding. We would highly recommend the boat departure - it was a truly unforgettable way to finish out night. Champers on departure and the boat ride was a lovely touch. Thank you from Mr & Mrs T.

Quality of food, service and presentation, and the attention to detail were outstanding. You were nearly unaware of the wait staff.. our drinks were always being replenished, and the food was delicious and there was plenty of it. As Europeans we could not fault this aspect. Leonda now looks brilliant, the gardens very romantic and the path down to the Yarra is now very lovely. Leonda by the Yarra gave us plenty of happy party memories.
