Fantastic restaurant.

I've been twice now and have been delighted both times.

I can thoroughly recommend the chef's menu. Amazing value for money and sensational quality.

They do great things with meat.

We need more places like this in our area, so I cannot recommend this highly enough.

This is an understated, intimate restaurant run by a couple who are passionate about what they do.

The lack of pretence and attention to detail is refreshing for the area.

The food has never disappointed and the wine selection is a nice complement.

They also offer discounted menu options during the week, which are a great way of getting to know a restaurant.

Highly recommended.

When this cafe opened, we were so excited. The room is fantastic. It is light filled, open and is clearly put together by someone with experience and a clear vision. Just what North Melbourne needed.

The coffee is consistently great, as it should be, given that they roast their own and take it very seriously.

The staff are generally friendly and helpful, even during weekend breakfast time, which is madness.

Given all of these great things, The Auction Rooms is not our local hangout. The reason is pretty simple - The food.

We persevered for months with their early menus and accepted that they didn't offer scrambled eggs or other classic breakfast options.

Eventually, though, we've gravitated back to our favourite spots in the CBD and Carlton, where the food is the hero.

We support local businesses wherever possible, but until the food improves, it remains a great room for great coffee only.

Rather than trying to reinvent the wheel with their menu, I wonder how much better it would be if they focussed on doing the basics really well. A bit like their attitude towards coffee. Surely quality can differentiate you from the pack?

This is quite simply the best place to have breakfast in Melbourne.

If you haven't been, then you should add it to your to-do list.

The staff are always professional and friendly. Service is quick and the outside tables are a great option if you have a pram.

We've tried almost everything on the menu and we cannot fault any of it.

Highlights are the Eggs Benedict and the Tom Cooper Salmon with pancakes.

It is not a cheap eat, but worth the extra you'll pay.

The coffee is excellent and consistent.

Approximate cost: $22 per head

We were delighted when this patisserie opened and it did not disappoint.

The selection of french pastries is excellent, with the almond croissants and pain au chocolats our personal favourites.

The cheesecake is sublime.

Coffee is good and consistent.

The sandwiches are tasty, without being amazing.

The service is normally good and the staff are friendly.

They make mothers and babies welcome and have plenty of high chairs.

An all round great local cafe.

Highly recommended.

Everyone needs a good local Fish and Chips shop.

This ticks all the boxes. It's clean, tasty and the fish is always fresh.

They do a great, honest hamburger and a proper charcoal chicken.

They only use Ionica chickens and their chips are delicious.

The family that own it is lovely and friendly. You really see the effort and care that goes into running this business.

Highly recommended.
