I like the view, but as far as a restaurant goes, there should be more. I'm not too big on ordering from the counter, there's enough staff roaming around that there should be some sort of service. The food was good, although if you go for a Sunday brunch, make sure to go early. The place fills up fast and they stop serving breakfast items at noon sharp (kind of a disappointment...). If I were hanging out at the beach again, I would probably stop in again.

Approximate cost: $17

I like Elfresco Café, they're right around the corner from my house, so on a Sunday afternoon, it's nice to pop our heads in and grab a nice coffee. They're never as crowded as the other cafes, which is nice because my husband and I can just sit in peace without having to wait too long. The muffins are good, and if you take them home for later, they're just as good as when you first buy them if you heat them up.

This is where I stop in for coffee on the weekends, although I wish I could stop in for food because it all looks so good. But it's always so busy on the weekends with everyone looking to enjoy brunch. As far as coffee, though, it's a personal favourite of mine and my husband. He always gets the long black and I get a skinny latte. They get the milk perfect every time! It's never fun when you get a latte that was either rushed, so the milk is only tepid, or when the barista leaves it heating too long and you get this scalding hot drink (I know it's coffee, it's supposed to be hot, but maybe I'm a little picky). When it's super busy, service is slower, but that's understandable, so when you go, be patient.

I love going to the Salvos, I know there are all sorts of treasures waiting to be found, the staff are always nice, the quality of the items are like-new, and you know you will always get a great price on everything! You'd be crazy to buy from the retail shops when the clothes and items here are just as good at a fraction of the cost. I mean, come on, if I asked a stranger where I purchased my dress from and how much, they would have no clue, so why not shop smart.

Love stopping in here!! Tons of produce, fresh seafood, huge variety of oils and dried spices, and this olive dip that is amazing (my husband goes nuts for it, it doesn't last five minutes in our house). The prices are unbeatable, cutting my grocery bills in half. You do need to watch what time you go in, if it's a peak hour it will be packed, and if it's just before they close, the staff members will all yell at you at once that they're closed. On the other hand, their seafood guy ran into the cooler to get me some fresh mussels after he had already packed them away, and in another instance, I walked away from the checkout counter mindlessly and the woman brought me the food bag I had left behind. This is certainly one of my favourites.

I have a pretty refined palette when it comes to beer, and I come from Milwaukee Wisconsin where we know good beer, so what a relief it was to find this place in the heart of St. Kilda. I know I moved to Australia to get a good dose of the Australian culture, but sometimes having that taste of home is comforting, and there was no shortage of good beers from my home there. I wish the guys who work there could be a bit more enthusiastic, I know that when it comes to liquor, I like someone who can listen to what I like and make a recommendation, especially with a place with so much to offer. I also wish it were in a different location. I've since moved away from St. Kilda and realize I took it completely for granted that all those cool shops were within walking distance from my apartment, and now a trip to Acland Street is met with crowds and no parking, so my visits are far less frequent.

Yum Yum!! When I lived in St. Kilda, my husband and I frequently passed this place to find it packed all the time. We've been in for coffees a few times, but finally made the stop in for some Sunday brunch. Not at all disappointing. I got the smoked trout sandwich. It was good, but I would have asked for different bread. I can't really describe it, it was sweet, almost like it had fruit in it or something. But this nothing against the quality of food, more of a personal preference. My husband got a three cheese omelette with salsa verde, tomatoes, and a side of bacon. It was HUGE, we could have easily split that. When I looked around, all the portions were generously sized, so either come hungry or with a friend to share. I can't say I've gotten necessarily outstanding service when I've come, but it was basic and the servers did what they were supposed to do.

YUM!! When I first moved to St. Kilda, my husband and I wandered on Acland St. and came across this place. We more wanted a place to hand out than a place to eat, so we sat at the back of the empty place and ordered calamari as a snack. The service was friendly and didn't bother us for the fact that we got one tiny thing to share. The lemon aioli was so tasty, I couldn't get enough of it. We went back for dinner a few weeks later, as we left the first time dreaming of the menu. The service was friendly and welcoming, a nice change from most restaurants who see you and yell from across the room to sit wherever. A nice young girl was our server, she was very prompt with our drinks and entrees. We got these mushrooms with goat cheese baked on top and the calamari again (just as good as the first time). I got the chicken taco and the crab taco, my husband got a burger. The server tried to talk me into more food, but I just wanted that for the moment. When I got the tacos, I was very happy I didn't have more food because they were amply filled. Both were beyond my expectations! I crave those tacos still. I've been looking for decent Mexican food (and I know Mexican, I come from an area highly populated with Mexicans who taught me some yummy recipes), and this was by far the closest I've come to good tacos yet! Bravo, I will be back soon!!

My husband and I wandered in here one night after deciding we didn't want to eat in. There's not much open on Centre Road after dark, so this was pretty much our only option, so we went for it. The décor could use some serious updating, especially when it's accompanied by the most bored looking guy on a synthesizer playing the cheesiest Italian music. My husband ordered the garlic pizza, I ordered the Carbonarra pasta. The pasta was alright, if I ever crave something creamy, I would not be disappointed to receive that. The pizza that my husband ordered was awful, though. The garlic was not cooked, the spring onions and kalamata olives mixed with the garlic was so over powering that is made it difficult to enjoy. I would never get the pizza there again. The service was okay, nothing special, pretty basic. Maybe I'll return, I haven't decided yet.

I was not at all impressed. My husband and I stopped in on a Sunday afternoon after a day at the beach. When we first arrived, there were only a few customers, but within ten minutes, the place was packed and there were only two people working, so it took some time to get our food. I'm usually patient and understand that busy times occur, so that didn't bother me too much, but I was curious as to why on a Sunday afternoon on one of the busiest streets in St. Kilda there would be only two servers. The food was a major disappointment. We shared two chicken tacos and beef enchiladas. The chicken was bland, the salsa was watery, and it tasted like it came from a can. The enchiladas had this flavour that was unbearable, I can't even describe it, but we couldn't even finish it. We know Mexican very well, as we are originally from a place heavily populated with Mexicans, but this place was nothing remotely close to Mexican food. We will not be returning anytime soon, unless there is a massive change in menu.
