Another great experience with Sam’s tailoring. Sam made alterations and repairs to a 1940s vintage dress and it was absolutely perfect. Quality of work was superb and the price very reasonable for the amount of work required. Thanks so much Sam!

On the recommendation of my now Husband Marko, I took my wedding dress from Suzanne Harward to Sam to get shortened both at the front and from the train. Sam had made the effort to come into the store especially for this appointment after having surgery the previous week. His workmanship on what was an incredibly delicate job was absolutely outstanding. I was so pleased with the outcome and cannot recommend him more highly. Marko often comments that he is the best tailor in Melbourne by far and after my experience with the dress, I completely agree. Thank you so much Sammy!

I would like to thank Sam, Grace and the rest of the team for their excellent work and great customer services. I brought in a day dress that was about one size too large for me and needed to be taken in and to be shortened at the sleeves. The particular style of the dress together with my personal preferences has made both the decison-making and the actual execution rather demanding. Sam and his team were impressively mindful of my opinions and has offered very constructive and professional advice. They are more than happy to put considerable amount of efforts into perfecting every details. As a result, the dress came back to me exactly the way I wanted — they got it right at the first round, with all the details carefully considered and crafted. Sam, Grace and the rest of the team are such warm-hearted and considerate people. The interations between us feel like reunions with old friends. They make you feel at home the moment you walk in, and they'd propose candid suggestions they consider best for your needs. I did find the services a bit pricey, but considering the profassionalism of the team, I would in no doubt recommend Sam's Alterations for those who would like their garments to be attentively and beautifully transformed.

I would not trust the team with ANY item of clothing ever again. I'm not one to write reviews or to a persons business and livelihood however, I had a number of alterations to be done to some expensive pieces and the reviews for Sam's Clothing Alterations all sounded positive, maybe I was unlucky but I felt it necessary to write up my experience. The agreed price for the works was high, however I was prepared to pay a little more for a level of quality, care and attention to detail... I wish I never had. An Oscar Hunt made to measure jacket from a few years back which fit perfectly other than lacking a little shape to the mid section was taken in to to the point I couldnt breath in the blazer. All I had wanted was some adjustment to the sides. I trusted the team, they were the experts but the unstructured, cotton jacket was taken in from the back so much that there was so much pulling at the mid section and the shoulder. After multiple attempts by the team to rectify, the end result is now a blazer which is too tight to use a phone with it on and at risk of tearing the arms/back one day. There is no material left at the back to let out. Ruined. My ACNE studio's jeans, bought on sale a size too big and just needed an inch taken out of the width of the leg. Could not even get these on my legs when I tried them on the first time. After 3 more visits and being made to feel I had a problem, the jeans finally fit. The issue here like the other garments, the team took them in WAY too much and then it was a painful process opening them out to the correct size. We got there in the end. Another item, a beautiful, brand new ACNE Studios jacket now has a number of tears throughout the internal lining as a result of the 'tailoring' process. You can only see these when you're not wearing the jacket. I'll live with it but the fact is that it shouldn't happen with any decent tailor and no-one even cared to mention this when I picked the jacket up. I felt that absolutely no care was given to any of my clothes. I was later refunded for the cost of the alterations to the jacket. Apart from this I was generally pleased with the work to the jacket. Repairs to another blazer had not even been completed after 4 weeks of waiting on my items. I get it, they're busy and I would definitely not have written a review or even mentioned it had I not been so incredibly disappointed in the rest of the experience and end result of Sam's Clothing Alterations. Look elsewhere is my suggestion

Sam's working is nothing short of flawless. I have visited him on two seperate occasions, exactly one year apart, with dresses that needed last minute alterations for cocktail functions. Both dresses required quite extensive and intricate tailoring and I cannot believe how beautifully they came back to me. I recently took a stunning red dress that needed a replacement zipper, and the replacement gold zipper Sam found looked 10 times better than the original! The dress fits like a glove. Sam and Gracie are both such honest, lovely, welcoming people that never make you feel as if you're asking for too much. They truly listen to your requests and will go above and beyond to ensure that the quality and craftsmanship is second to none. While you may pay slightly more than what you would elsewhere, Sam is by far the best in Melbourne, and most likely in Australia. If he cannot fix it, no one can!

Sam is a miracle worker! Excellent customer service and incredible workmanship. So very happy with the modifications he has made to my bridesmaids dress, I was so anxious that it couldnt be fixed. Quality: I brought in several difficult items to be tailored (a linen jacket that needed alteration to both the width and length of sleeves and needed to be taken in at the front and back, a dress that Sam created a waistline on from scratch, a heavy wool coat to be taken in, and a jumpsuit to have the waist shortened). Sam altered every piece with perfect invisible seams and a perfect fit to my proportions. Absolutely flawless, even the difficult pieces. Thank you! Customer service: Grace and Sam are wonderful people. They give honest advice about what is possible to alter and what they recommend, but they are equally happy to go with your choice if it differs. The items were finished on time and at the price quoted. They were kind and attentive when I visited the shop and they are very trustworthy. Value: The service might be more expensive than other places but you are paying for the excellent quality and attention to detail. Therefore I think it is good value. Thank you Sam and Grace, I will be back with more clothes for you for certain!

This review has been a long time coming - my wife did extensive research for a highly skilled tailor as both our coats needed tailoring. She found Sam's Clothing Alterations and the rest is history. Sam and Grace provided excellent customer service and Sam expertly tailored our coats to the T. A few months later, I returned to Sam's to get two suits altered. The suits needed quite a lot of work done and given my budget, Sam was upfront about which alterations he thought were best investing in at the time, and which alterations I could leave for later. I truly appreciated his transparency. Needless to say, my wife and I will remain loyal customers and will continue to refer anyone who needs alterations done to Sam! Thank you, Sam and Grace! Recently I purchased a beautiful shirt to wear to a special occasion. I loved the shirt except the the sleeves were too long. It is a silk shirt. I went to several alterations places and they all said nothing could be done to alter the length of sleeves due the intricate design and delicate material. I searched the web looking for options and I am so glad I found Sams Alterations Company. He did an amazing job and my shirt is now perfect. VERY HAPPY !!!! Faye

I had a suit in need of altering for a formal, the suit was my father's and when I wore it, it looked as though I was drowning in fabric. Sam is a true magician, a master in his craft. Sam's alteration left my suit fitting me like a glove and making me look superb on the night. Sam and Graciella provided the best customer service one could ask for and were genuinely interested in how I would look and feel on the night, not just the outcome. Sam is more than happy to alter new things at the drop of a hat, cannot recommend him enough to any and all out there in search of Melbourne's best tailor that can do it all, for a very fair price.

After six months of hard work getting into shape, the downside was that my wardrobe no longer fits and great suits started to look very ill fitted. There started the difficult journey of finding a tailor that I could trust my best suits to. All I can say is that Sam the Tailor is a true master of his profession, he not only made all he alterations perfectly, he also corrected the original fit of the Jackets & Pants to fit my body type. Absolutely brilliant work, and I am so happy with the results. When I left my clothing with Sam & Gracie, they told me exactly how much it was going to cost and when it would be ready and they delivered exactly on what they said. In fact when I tried the pants of two suits on after they had been altered, Sam wasn't 100% happy (even though I was) and insisted on making a final adjustment (no further cost) before I collected. I only had to introduce myself once when I first went to visit Sam & Gracie, and they remembered my name from then on. I feel absolutely welcome when I go to their store, and confident that my clothing will come out looking perfect. I have numerous other suits, coats etc that I will be progressively taking for alterations, and look forward to catching up with Sam & Gracie. I strongly recommend their services.

After extensive search via the internet and reading reviews trying to find a tailor to do clothing alterations in the CBD, I decided to go see Sam in his shop. Sam is an exceptional tailor I will even go as far and call him an artisan of his craft. Nothing is too hard for him and he is patient and listens to what you require altered, he also never rushes with you and takes his time so both you and he know what would be the end result from the alterations. His pricing is more than reasonable, it is like the famous saying “you pay for what you get”. I had the following items altered, a jacket that the sleeve length needed shortened, numerous shirts taken in as they were too large in the body, also a few of my favorite pairs of jeans tapered in the leg. Sam is polite and has a warm character about him, when you come into his shop he that makes you feel like you are visiting an old friend. His partner Grace is a joy to deal with, she has a very bubbly personality that you just want to stay in the shop all day and chat to her. I would recommend Sam to anyone that wants alterations done anytime without fail. If you want prompt service and great results, Sam the Tailor is the place to go. Thank you Sam and Grace.

Outstanding, transformed a custom made suit bought over the internet that had pants too long and baggy, sleeve length too long, suit jacket and vest too big (I'm 6'2" and lean and it was fitted for Barry Hall or Hulk Hogan) in 3 weeks into a perfect groomsman suit. Can't thank Sam and his team highly enough. Definitely worth the money.

I've just had two dresses altered by Sam. From being unwearable they now fit like a glove and I feel like I have gorgeous new clothes. I've also had repairs done on some favourite clothes which I can't bear to part with (including some delicate and worse for wear designer things) and he has done a lovely job of mends that can't be seen. He has a real eye for what looks good and a true skill as a tailor. Fast and also very reasonably priced for the very high quality of his work.

Sam is your guy if you need an alteration which requires problem solving. I purchased a beautiful dress a little while ago and it no longer zips up at the back (too much over-indulgence...) and I needed the dress for a wedding in less than a week! I was almost giving up but Sam was able to cut some material from the floaty end of the dress, relocate the zipper and attach the extra material to the back of the dress! The work performed was seamless and the dress fitted perfectly. Sam managed to get this all done in three days, just in time for the wedding! Very happy customer and would definitely recommend.

I recently stumbled across SAMs alterations while looking to get a dress fixed. I had previously taken the dress to two different tailors, one of which was a renound suit tailor whom our family has used for years, both refused to touch the dress due to the difficulty and nature of the material. The dress in questions was organza silk which I had absolutely ruined. I tad torn it in numerous areas both on the front and back, inclusive of the inside lining. After speaking to both tailors I was certain the dress couldn't be fixed. I decided to take it to SAMs as one final attempt to save this garment. I was immediately greeted and made to feel comfortable. Sam attended to me and conversed with me honestly about the job. He assured me he could fix the dress and went on to explain how he would do so and how much time he required. It took him just over one week to transform my dress. I was absolutely blown away by the result. The dress was not only fixed but returned to its former state. By looking at the dress I was unable to find where I had previously torn it, it was not until I saw 'before' pictures that I was able to identify where the dress had been split. The service and expertise provided by Sam and all his staff are unlike any I have experienced. They are genuine, professional and honest. I cannot recommend him enough, and I would not consider taking any of my clothes to anyone other than Sam. Thank you for saving my dress !!! (I promise I will never bring it in to be fixed again)

Best tailor in town! I have dealt with quite a couple of tailors in Melbourne including a few referred by good brands such as Ted Baker, but I would have to say that out of all Sam is the best tailor I have ever come across! Apart from delivering an unmatched quality in alteration work, Sam is also able to provide you with suggestions about styling and fashion trends! To date I think I have had at least 5 sets of suits, 4-5 suit jackets and 4 trousers altered by Sam, all were of absolute excellent finishes and suited me like a glove, most importantly these items looked untouched like they are just off the racks! All in all very happy with Sam's work and by the way Grace in the shop makes wonderful coffees! Keep up the good work!

Can't recommend Sam highly enough. He did a beautiful job on the two shirts I brought in for what turned out to be fairly unusual alterations (required removal of about 8cm of material in the upper back, as well as darting)- I'm pretty picky with the fit of my clothes and they are absolutely perfect. I won't trust my clothes with anyone else going forward. A truly exceptional business in terms of expertise, professionalism and customer service- my sincere thanks to both Sam and Gracie. I had Sam alter a 25 year old ball gown, that was quite elaborate and boned in the bodice, and the quality of alteration was second to none. The update and matching of the fabric was faultless and no one could tell it had been touched. Excellent work. Amazing attention to detail.

Sam did a great job doing alterations to my wedding suit - he added a breast pocket (which was a pretty substantial job, requiring pulling apart much of the main suit construction), then shortened the sleeves, hemmed the trousers and brought in the seat. It all happened in good time, and when I needed a lapel buttonhole added and replacement of all the buttons for nicer ones, he chucked it in for free. Highly recommended - haven't found a better tailor in the cbd.

Highly recommend to use Sam's Alteration who needs their old suit altered (tapering trousers + jacket alteration). He did a perfect job on mine :) Better to be sure with someone with the experience and knowledge and plus he was very friendly on my first visit.

Beyond my expectations all the time! I've always been so satisfied with Sam's work and I don't usually write reviews but this time I had to. I had a wedding to attend as a bridesmaid last Saturday and the bridesmaid dress was given to me on Tuesday which was roughly 3-4 days prior to the wedding and the size was too big for me. So I ran into Sam's alteration for his magic hands to help me out and guess what. The dress was ready to pick up on Friday early afternoon and the fit was just so beautiful which made other bridesmaids jealous on the wedding day! Not only the alteration works but Sam and Gracie's smile will make you to become a regular customer. Dana :)

I bring my clothes all the way from Tasmania for Sam to fix. He just fixed my husband's wedding suit pants which other tailors said were unfixable - now they look brand new! My husband is so happy. I made some lifestyle changes and needed 5 suits and 1 jacket substantially altered. Sam has transformed 3 suits and the jacket into perfectly fitting garments. This was a huge job and Sam agreed to take on the job as long as we could assess the likely success of each garment. One suit turned out to have some damage and another was not really suitable due to the extensive alterations required. I could not be more delighted with Sam's work and the positive attitude of Sam and Gracie. To replace the suits would have cost 3 times at least the cost of the alterations. I highly recommend Sam's Clothing Alterations. Thank you Sam.

Sam turned a questionable looking cheap, online dress into a classy, wearable, more flattering dress within a reasonable time frame with the most professional, friendly manner and even repaired a button on my partners vest when we went to pick it up promptly. Sam and his wife run a small efficient business in the Courts precinct of the City of Melbourne. The quality of his tailoring and alterations is first class. Perhaps a bit more expensive and some similar services, but you pay for what you get, and what you get is personal and pleasant service from the person who is doing the job.

Fantastic, undetectable alteration to my good leather jacket. Now it fits, at last! I really recommend Sam's. Originally, I was worried about whether this alteration was even do-able (taking in both side-seams invisibly on a lined leather jacket), but Sam did a really fantastic job.

I had a cashmere jacket that was 4 sizes too big, and it had hung in my cupboard for years, too nice to throw away, but too big to wear. I researched online for 'Melbourne's best Tailor' and Sam is definitely it. He did an on the spot measure when I dropped in, and provided a reasonably priced quote. When I picked up the coat, it looked like it has been made that way from the very beginning. All the work and effort to take it in, and up was perfect and the cut was superb. I cannot fault Sam's work, and he and his staff are amazingly friendly. If you're looking for magnificent work, and friendly service, I'd highly recommend Sam. Thanks Sam, I love my 'new' coat!

Delighted with the service... Sam has brought life into an old suit that no longer fitted me. He also did an amazing job on tailoring my jeans and another new suit. I felt very comfortable having Sam alter my clothes, he knows exactly what he is doing and can visually identify how clothes should be fitted. I would recommend him to anyone and will be taking more clothes to him in the future.

I recently had a winter coat given to me as a gift, it was too long both in length and on the sleeves. The coat was expensive so I didn't want to use any tailor for the job. After much research I came to Sam's. The alteration was flawless, you can't even look tell I had it altered. I'm very satisfied with the work and how it turned out. Definately be my 1st choice for future alteration needs.

Sam is an artisan when it comes to fabric. Don't let the unassuming shop fool you, this is the place to go for first class repairs and alterations. I tore a massive hole in my favourite suit pants at work and all the retailer offered was to throw them out and sell me a new pair. Sam took one look at them and told me 'no problem'. Since then I've had another suit that I had long since grown out of taken out to fit me perfectly. It's a comfort to know that no job is too big for Sam, who is incredibly personable and clearly has years of knowledge and experience. I cannot recommend him highly enough.

For several years I had been searching for a bespoke tailor in Melbourne.I was unable to find such a person. I needed to have an expensive European cashmere coat remodelled.It was over twenty years old and way out of fashion . I was concerned about entrusting such a garment to any alteration shop.I was delighted when I found Sam on the internet . He virtually remade the coat as it was now two sizes too big . He did an excellent job. I am delighted with the result . I now have a new coat thanks to Sam's quality workmanship. I would have no hesitation in recommending his work.

He was great at the consultative phase, where he went through all my options for the work required, making genuine recommendations on what was worth the investment and what was not. He was also fantastic at the end, where he went through all the work he has done. He prices vary reasonably and I strongly recommend him. I had a Barbour brand wax jacket that I wanted taken in. I went and saw my usual tailors and they wouldn’t touch it due to how complex the job was (multiple lawyers, requires waterproof stitching and a generally hard material to work with). I was pretty disappointed about this and decided to google tailors in Melbourne who might be able to help out Due to all the great reviews about Sam, I thought I would contact him. Straight away I was impressed with his knowledge and confidence in being able to do the work and to a high standard. I handed the jacket over and I’m stoked with how it has come out! Sam has done the best job – the jacket is still fully waterproof, the inside lining still looks great and the workmanship was outstanding! I truly recommend Sam for his skills and excellent work. I now know where to go for top notch tailoring and alterations. Sam’s the man!!!

I've been keen to get some of my shirts taken in so they fit: there's not a thing I could possibly fault Sam and his team for. In asking for him to take the shirts in so they're nicely fitted, Sam nailed the cut, the result is really professionally done and did it within a reasonable time. I read his reviews and took the time to walk from one side of the city to the other to get there - definitely worth it. Outstanding quality work and worth every cent!

Sam was amazing! I had taken my suit to other tailors who told me it was impossible to repair the pants, and that I may as well toss them out. Professional, efficient, personalised and flexible tailor in the Melbourne CBD. Right in the middle of the legal precinct hidden away in Healeys Lane (between Lonsdale and Little Lonsdale) you'll find this gem of a youing man. I work for 5 barristers so often have high quality suits, gowns and casual wear needing anything from minor repairs to major alterations and Sam is always efficient completing the work to the highest standard at a reasonable price and with a smile. He has also repaired some precious garments of mine (sentimental value - 80 year old "coming out" cape of my mother's, shirring on special dress some 26 years old) and the job done was top class. I was looking for a master tailor to alter my expensive wedding suit purchased overseas and came across Sam from these positive reviews. Fortunately, I was not disappointed as Sam was able to alter my suit to my exact, slim fitting requirements. His advice based on his many years of knowledge and experience, helped to create the perfect fit, where I received many compliments on my wedding day. The only minor speedhump was that it took slightly longer than expected but Sam ultimately delivered the right fit and finish and I would not hesitate to return in future.

I had Sam alter a leather jacket for me. Would have been a difficult task but the end result was exactly what id hoped for. Like anything you get what you pay for and if you are having doubts about the price its worth spending a bit extra for a tailor like Sam who knows what he is doing especially if the clothing item is of personal value to you.

I read Sam's reviews on WOMO, and everything sounded good. I needed a couple of men's suits altered at reasonably short notice, which he was happy to assist with. I turned up to his shop and met Sam and Grace, and all I can say is that their customer service is amazing. Sam explains everything so well, and performed probably the best suit alteration I've ever had. He explained the costs and why, and the costs were not over the top. Grace was wonderful, and kept my daughter entertained while I was talking with Sam. They run an amazing business that is professional, well run and with quality that is second to none. Went to Sam with 2 Paul Smith suits that were too tight, not the suits fault. I could tell from the way he observed and took measurements that the man knew what he was doing. Couple of weeks later I have 2 suits that fit like a glove. A very nice gentleman who knows his craft. Will definitely go back for any alteration and would definitely recommend him to others.

Sam has altered a number of suits for me. He is a fine tailor and a very friendly, approachable person. As well as having a fine eye and great skill, Sam also listens to what you want, and doesn't press you to do more than you want or need. On one occasion, I took suit trousers back for further alteration and he refused to take more money - even though the fault was mine. I don't hesitate in recommending Sam.

I purchased a suit off-the-rack and thought it fit pretty well, except for the pants which I wanted to get tapered. Took it to Sam with time restrictions for a wedding a week later. I tried the whole suit on and on Sams recommendations got the jacket altered as well. The suit now fits perfectly and looks like its worth much more than it actually cost. Great service, perfect tailoring, I highly recommend and will definitely be going back in the future when I need something altered.

Sam is an excellent tailor. He is friendly and doesn't hide anything, he told me exactly what he was doing and gave me a realistic estimation on the cost of the dress. My dress had a lace hem that had to be removed before hemming and sewed back on afterwards, it was done with perfection. I can't tell it was even taken off and the stitching is invisible. I have only had good interactions with Sam and his staff and will definitely be returning if I need any alterations or dry cleaning in the future. Thanks Sam!!

After massively splitting the seat of my suit pants while packing up after a day at the races, I thought they were ruined beyond repair. I took them to Sam hoping for the best, and he did a fantastic job. You can't tell they've been repaired & the way he altered them has led to a better fit than before. Have you ever been to a barber who says: 'How shall I cut your hair today' and wanted to say: "Hey, I love your haircut! You decide!' I haven't either, but I have found the equivalent in a taylor. Good customer service and quality work is a pre-requisite. What I like most about Sam is that I can tell him that I have a problem with a garment and I can trust him to fix it tastefully and stylishly, without ruining the look and feel of the clothes. My 30th birthday outfit was more than I visioned thanks to Sam's alterations! I had a pair of leather wide leg pants made while on holiday in Bali, but after 4 different fittings and alterations I returned to Melbourne with pants I could not wear. One visit to Sam and he knew exactly what I wanted without me saying anything! I've been to a few tailors in my life, some to build entire suits from scratch, others to make small adjustments here and there. From my experience of these tailors, Sam is one of those rare ones who you immediately feel takes great pride in their work. I brought two pieces of clothing to Sam's clothing alterations with little or no hope of them being repaired, but i was wowed when i saw the end result. The first piece was a skirt with a very stretchy and thin delicate mesh lining around it that unfortunately had a hole through the material and now you can not even tell that it was even damaged. there are no sew marks and it is completely sealed up. I also brought in a pair of my favourite jeans that had been worn out over time and he matched the exact same material and fixed the tear. Amazing customer service and quality work, i would recommend Sam's clothing alterations for anyone who is need of an excellent tailor who looks after your needs and wants.

I took my evening cocktail dress to Sam to repair. It was a very detailed beaded dress that required a lot of delicate work to fix. He repaired the dress and his workmanship is excellent. Sam is one of the nicest and most professional men I have ever met. Not only that, his experience and expertise outranks most. I needed a suit altered to fit and Sam's Clothing Alterations was the first to pop up on WOMO (even won service awards). Shortly after arriving at his office (which is up the stairs and to the right) and donning on the suit, he could see almost immediately what needed to be done and made suggestions accordingly to preference and budget. He also gave me tips for future reference. I left the suit in his most capable hands. A few days later, I picked up the suit and the workmanship was flawless. It was as if I brought the suit like that and everything fit beautifully, as he said it would. Cost was decent but fitting for the quality of work. Sam is one of the best tailors I've ever met. I brought in a clingy silk/chiffon dress which needed to be taken in. Due to the flimsy nature of the material, a couple of tailors I had approached said it was too hard to work with. And one even made a mess of the hemline. Sam on the other hand did an amazing job with such a difficult material. The workmanship was amazing and he took the effort to really get to understand how it would fit on me. Plus fantastic customer service. Definitely my go-to tailor from now on.

Sam's expert eye means that he offers much more than alterations. As well as lengthening or shortening, he can immediately see if, for example, jacket would hang better if tapered more in small of the back. He is undaunted by the challenge of a curved hemline or having to move an entire button hole in order to shorten a sleeve. I can highly recommend him.
