This review is for Thai Lao, Calamvale QLD

Like many of the shops at Calamvale Marketplace, Thai Lao has a great village feel about it - this seems like a new place as the restaurant is well presented. The menu is modern and the incorporation of Lao dishes separates it from many other Thai restaurants about (the Lao papaya salad was very good). The green curry was fragrant and cooked with skill - it tasted authentic rather than from a tin. Really enjoyable experience, service was really excellent.

This review is for Calamvale Bakery, Calamvale QLD

I really love the independence of this bakery - it was once a Baker's Delight, but is now far superior because of the combination of great customer service, much better value and great pies and bread. Highly recommended.

Excellent, somewhat themed (The Godfather) barber shop. Great service is always assured - the staff actually listen to what you are after and are highly proficient at getting the cut right without fuss. Is now located at the Calamvale Market Place on Beaudesert Road. Pretty reasonably priced, especially considering the customer service and the quality of the cut!

This review is for Miss India, Coorparoo QLD

verified email - 05 Jan 2014

Miss India Coorparoo is really a standout amongst low-cost, fast Indian takeaway places in Brisbane - there are a few other Miss India restaurants, but this one is the pick for me. The food is highly Westernised, but always tastes fresh (despite the bain-maries being utilised). Naan are brilliant and very importantly, the staff are always a pleasure. Highly recommended for a quick bite - it may not be the most traditional, but it is a good meal all the same.

This review is for The Sushi 79, Toowong QLD

Karaage and the old California roll was the choice - wasn't overly cheap, but the quality was above average compared to the majority of sushi restaurants in the inner west of Brisbane. You do pay for it though, with the cost not the greatest (some specials now in play though, with early bird and dinner discounts). It is in a bit of a pokey location and the ambience is not outstanding. Just okay for me - wouldn't hurry back unless it was on my way home from work.

This review is for Cafe Rock Pool, Southport QLD

verified email - 05 Jan 2014

Aesthetically pleasing, classy and great food - it is difficult to fault Cafe Rock Pool at the Southport Parklands. We were there recently and the breakfast was very good - I had the 'Eggs Rockpool', fetta with scrambled eggs on bread was something different, but worked well. Coffee was good. For the location, it was good value - great many places to go to nearby - and it is well located for a cold drink just as you are heading back to the car for a cold drink on your way out. Quite good service.

This review is for Baguette Bistro And Bar, Ascot QLD

verified email - 05 Jan 2014

We had a memorable experience at Baguette on Friday evening - three course meal and our first time at this well established French restaurant. The escargo were done with care - interestingly came with some small fried chicken pieces (little piece of bone with one of those, which was not great). We had the lamb and the beef for our mains, which were extremely well done. Bone marrow with the steak was a great touch, as was the potatoes (triple cooked, I think). The creme brulee for dessert was large enough for two and was exceptional. Drinks were very good, with the service first class. Sure, it isn't cheap, but it is French, well executed and in a great location.

This review is for Warrigal Barbers, Runcorn QLD

I do love this place and had my hair cut by Andy and the team for over 10 years while living over that side of town. Always a good chat, importantly a quality cut (with neck shave included) and the whole place just has a positive ambience about it. Reasonable pricing when you taken into account the customer service. Highly recommended if in need of a shear!

This review is for Victoria Point Kiosk Rock 'n' Roll Cafe, Victoria Point QLD

verified email - 02 Jan 2014

The Rock'n'Roll Cafe got me at the checkerboard black and white flooring.... in all honesty though, it is in a magic location and is good for a coffee just before you get on the boat ramp out to Coochiemudlo or Russell Island. The burgers are as classic as the decor - a bit of a rarity to find a burger with the lot, but you'll be able to get it here, no problems and for a reasonable price. The meat pattie tasted homemade, so it was all good, big and all the extras were as to be expected. Service wasn't express (even though it was a little quiet when we went there). It won't blow you away, but it isn't the worst place I've ever eaten at. We haven't done fish and chips from here, but from what I saw coming out of the kitchen, it looked like good servings and happy customers. It is in a bit of an isolated location, but doesn't take this for granted. Recommended.

This review is for Japanese Kitchen Osaka, Jindalee QLD

Neat little restaurant / take away place in Jindalee shops - I stumbled across it a few days ago and had to give it a go. The ginger pork meal was my choice - though the karaage chicken was tempting. Service was very friendly, meal tasted fantastic and with mains around the $10 mark, it is difficult to go past. Definitely the best eating within a 1km radius (well, that's my opinion!). Highly recommended.
