This review is for Patisserie New York, Mortdale NSW

This is an impressive and relatively new entrant to the Mortdale cafe 'scene'. It appears to be an offshoot of the Caringbah Patisserie New York, however I was not aware of Caringbah before it opened in Mortdale (and Mortdale is not reflected on the website...yet?). An amazing selection of delectable pastry and cake delights beckon from the long, gleaming glass display cabinet. We've popped in a couple of times for a takeaway treat and have spent several minutes wracked with indecision about what to try. You can also have coffee and eat in store, which we're yet to try, although it looks inviting. Not cheap but excellent in both presentation and taste.

Approximate cost: $5.50 for an individual tart

We've eaten here once and got takeaway a few times. Only had pizza, but always enjoyed it. It's cosy, busy and noisy if you eat in and there are always people waiting to collect take away pizzas. I walk past regularly, and it's always busy. A great option for a tasty, local, good quality pizza,

Good coffee (not that easy to find in The Rocks!) and a delicious range of pastries and sweet and savoury treats, including fantastic macarons. The system for buying takeaway coffee is a bit odd if you're not familiar with it, but you get used it. A lovely courtyard for eating in (with the tourists). A bit on the expensive side, but good.

A simple, great value hot bread shop conveniently located in the Mortdale village shopping strip. They have a great range of cakes, pastries and bread products at really good value prices. Their tea cakes are a family favourite.

I went here with a large group for dinner, and it was good but not great - pretty standard pizzeria fare and atmosphere. Pizzas are a good size and there is a good range of pasta and other mains. You can BYO (wine only) and it is also licensed. I wouldn't rush back - would probably try another place first - but I but wouldn't be opposed to eating here again either.

Approximate cost: $27

This shop has a good range of kitchenware and homewares. I have purchased simple kitchen items for myself there, as well as gifts and larger items like serving dishes. They also have cards and gift wrap. Not open Sundays, except in December.

This is a well stocked store with good hours (eg early morning opening). I live locally, and I have popped in several times to pick up anything from batteries, to electrical tape, to wall brackets. They usually have what I'm looking for, although they don't seem very interested in serving me, sometimes to the point of being downright unhelpful. For me, they're somewhere I would go if I needed something small, but I wouldn't make a big purchase there.

This review is for 363 Lobby Cafe, Sydney NSW

This cafe is one of those that you probably wouldn't go to unless you had to do business in this building, but if you're in the vicinity and looking for a coffee, snack or meal, it's definitely worth visit. The service is fast and friendly and the coffee is fantastic (try their new Columbian blend). They also have great cakes, snacks and an extensive lunch menu for takeaway or eat in. Most of the regular clientele are local office workers, but it's open to everyone. Highly recommended.

I've been to Gold Class a couple of times recently and it's a great experience, although not one you'd want to do all the time at your own expense. We went with gift vouchers, but tickets are pricey if you're paying yourself. Having said that, the experience is good - fully reclining, every comfortable seats with footrests and a table for food and drink. You can order food and drink (including alcohol) to be brought at a specified time during the movie, brought in by a waitperson. Great for a treat or a particularly long/great movie.

This review is for Contours Mortdale, Mortdale NSW

Contours Mortdale is a friendly, unpretentious, female-only gym. It is quite small, but with their "29 minute" circuit based workout, there is enough time and equipment at any time for a workout. You alternate between cardio and resistance and keep moving the whole time. The gym hours are somewhat limited, but if you're looking for a local, convenient place to get into a regular workout regime, Contours could be for you.
