I have been highly impressed with the speed and availability since it was connected as I was previously with Virgin who were a rip off. Telstra service and product is worth paying for.

We have a 30Mbps 60GB Cable Extreme account with BigPond and have been highly impressed with the speed and availability since it was connected. The service has had three brief outages, two of which were apparently random, and an engineer was on-site within 24 hours to rectify the fault.

I arranged for Bigpond Broadband over the phone and agreed to a 12 month contract. Telstra are now insisting that I agreed to a 24 month plan which I dipute 100 percent. We all know that the call centre operators have sales targets to meet - at the end of the day, it's my word against theirs and of course 'they' receive comission for selling longer contracts!! Conflict of interest here!!
They are holding to me to this plan, despite my protests.
Not only are they deceitful but they are very poor value.

I know someone that had a problem with a different ips/telco and they asked for a copy of the voice recording of the call and the verbal bit that you do when you "sign" the contract over the phone.

The company backed down when they could find the recording.

Many times my broadband is as slow as dial up, when I first got this service the pages would load before you could blink but its no longer like this even acessing my bigpond email can be a chore as it wont connect at times.

Being a high speed Cable user, we were surprised at the relatively slow speeds provided, with a low download limit, and a fairly hefty cost. When service does go down, support staff are very quick to blame the user, rather than the service, even when it is obviously the fault of Bigpond. We very rarely get anything near the quoted broadband speeds.

Approximate cost: $60

Use ADSL2 Broadband connection - its very reliable - rarely down - dont often get to full speed though as they prioritise commercial customers....Also their prices are expensive.

As the only broadband ISP that covers my area, I have had to take a contract with Telstra BigPond's NextG wireless broadband service. The service itself is OK although it's slow by ADSL standards, has very low download limits, the software that comes with it is pretty flaky, and it is extremely expensive. However, what's been frustrating me even more than all this is that I can't network the service around my house so that my wife can use it on her computer too. It just isn't possible. This is a deliberate design strategy according to Telstra - I suppose so that each person in a household who wants broadband has to buy a separate contract! To hobble the system on purpose this way is the kind of thing big monopolies are notorious for so it is no surprise that Telstra is charging large fees for a limited service that can't even be networked (like any other broadband service). So I'd like to warn people about taking a NextG contract - don't do it unless you absolutely have to. It really is very poor value for money.

This is spot on. Telstra Bigpond is the ISP of last resort
