AS 940 SHERPA RIDE-ON MOWER

I live in an area with uneven steep terrain and various types of ground cover including tall bracken, fallen sticks and various weeds and grasses.

Past experience with “Lawn” ride-on mowers has resulted in damaged front steering mechanisms, belt problems and lack of traction on both steep and uneven terrain.

The move to the more expensive 4 Wheel Drive AS940 Sherpa machine has proved to be a great experience right from the initial meeting up with Reg and the friendly team at Valley Pumps & Irrigation Systems in Moe, Victoria. These guys are obviously passionate about the product they are selling and so they should be. The Sherpa bears all the hallmarks of a quality-made machine designed for the rough end of town.

The benefits over traditional ride-on mowers from my perspective are:-

Climbing ability that will handle my hilly terrain. Where the steep slopes covered with loose shale proved too much of a challenge I was able to traverse these areas coming down the slope safely. The big bonus with the Sherpa's climbing ability is best appreciated when the steep slopes are also uneven. Kicking in the diff-lock overcomes most challenges.
Ability to safely stop on steep slopes allows one to back right down to fences or other obstacles and take off forwards without any fear of slipping back or lacking the required traction. The machine also has great traction in reverse for those who may feel more comfortable going down nose-first and backing up.
Higher cutting height that will generally clear my rocky ground and also allow me to traverse the shallow creek that splits the property.
Mulching action of the Sherpa mostly happens under the machine. There's not much vegetation getting thrown out as with traditional mowers as it's all being destructed underneath. This almost eliminates grass being caught up in areas that could prove to be a fire hazard.
The heavy duty blades and general tough construction of the deck mean that I don't need to be so pedantic about clearing sticks and bark from the area before mowing. Traditional ride-ons don't like sticks that manage to get under the belt and either damage it it throw the belt off the pulley. Long ribbon bark lengths from the local “Ribbony Gums” pose no problem and are chopped up.
The comfortable adjustable sprung seat is a bonus and the whole layout of the controls gives one a confident feel of being in full control.
And.. hey.. This is a real fun machine. Wait 'til the neighbors hear the growl of the exhaust and see you coming over the horizon on this baby.

Negatives
There's no stubby holder
Things become a bit dusty for the operator in dry grass as most of the stuff is being chopped up underneath tends to come out as dust. I wear glasses to do this stuff.

Background & Commercial - We design and construct car wash sites across Australia and have worked with Vally Pumps and Irrigation as our supplier of choice for most matters pumping and the like since entering the business in 1999. Reg has extensive broad experience in commercial and industrial pumping applications and is adapt to finding solutions at cost effective prices. Reg is highly competent and trustworthy. We have relied heavily on Valley Pumps for expert advice, pumping and water treatment solutions in a variety of applications for about 12 years now and will continue to do so.

We have worked together in design and construction of a number of commercial and industrial applications and I consider Valley Pumps a most valuable supplier.

Domestic Experience - I have used Valley Pumps for the supply and design works for my fire fighting system at my residence and can confidently say that it was great value for money and has given great peace of mind in a high fire danger area of Gippsland Hills. Of all the home fire fighting defense systems I have seen, I think the one supplied by Valley Pumps is the best. I have also used Valley Pumps to install rain water catchment tanks and domestic pumping supply (plumbing, trenching, electrical and pump).

I am sorry I have rated straight 5 stars because no one is perfect however there are no half stars available.

had what i fondly call a crapper installed. This is a vitamizer pump thing for a toliet or shower for a outdoor room or somewhere that you need sewerage ect to be removed and pumped to the sewerage line. This unit made it possible to install a shower and toilet without digging up concrete to get into the sewerage line. One word of advice make sure you tighten all connections. My systerm pumps sewerage and shower water up a pipe 3 meters to roof of shed then to connecting pipes to seweage. A great machine and the guy Reg who installed it was great. came up with a great solution for a awarkward problem. Thanks again Reg.

Installation of 45,400 Litre water tank including excavation, all pipework, connection to existing pump and household supply. Excellent professional service and workmanship by the company and all subcontracters, especially in this day and age. Very pleased with the job.

I have a daughter that has skin irritation from stuff they add in the town water. We had to find a solution and after calling around i got Reg at valley pumps who told me what i needed and what to look for (he had the info straight off the top of his head)- which was Filters to go on the water line coming into the house that filter out all the nastys, with out affecting water pressures and now the water tastes good too. So i researched what he said and he was spot on. Called him up and it was installed in no time and within a week my daughters skin irritations have cleared up. Thanks for your help.!

Asked Reg for advice on pressure tank replacement, Was given price and advice in 5 minutes, then had tank and further instructions sent to me interstate very quickly. Everything worked perfectly as described - even to a non-mechanical person like me. Pump back in action.
