We love Mountain Bread in this household and consume large quantities of it, so it's handy being able to buy it in bulk straight from the supplier! Always arrives quickly and is fresh.

I think their unleavened breads are great. They produce products that are not greasy and soggy, always fresh. Their service and packaging is also great. I just wish they give discounts to long time customers. Thanks guys!

We have been regular purchasers of the Mountain Bread range for several years now and can personally attest to the consistent quality and freshness on offer. While the Mountain Bread range sprang from humble beginnings, as they were baking primarily for family members, there was an undeniable, increase in demand from the Lebanese community, which essentially led to commercial production in 1985. According to the Mountain Bread website, they entered the international market in 1999 and have not ‘looked back’ since increasing (export) distribution to the following countries: USA, UK, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, Fiji, Dubai and Asia. All products are made right here in Reservoir, Victoria.
Although the majority of countries have their own versions of ‘flat bread’ (Turkey, India, Lebanon, Greece, Sardinia, etc), the basic method is often similar, irrespective of any ‘fillings’ that may (or may not) be included. Each family has their own ‘special’ recipe which is (like within many communities) handed-down from ‘mother-to-daughter’ through the generations.
The Mountain Bread Company, a family business, specializes in a growing number of delicious ‘flat breads’ that have become very popular over the last few years and are not just consumed by the health conscious, but by the general populous who have essentially ‘fallen-in-love’ with the product and its versatility. Irrespective of ones personal diet/lifestyle choices, the majority of people can find a Mountain Bread variety that is right for them. Although stocked by most major supermarkets (Coles, Safeway, IGA), not all stores carry each specific variety. Regardless of this, the following varieties are available: Barley, Chia, Corn, Oat, Oregano, Rice, Rye, Spelt, Spinach, Tomato & Basil, White, White (with extra fibre) and a wonderful ‘Organic’ option (that excludes the iodized salt, folate and thiamin that the other varieties contain.)
Although the respective company recommends ‘freezing’ as an acceptable means of storage/preservation, we have not experienced success via this method. We found this particularly disappointing since we had planned to buy in bulk, direct from the manufacturer, which is considerably cheaper; $2.50- per unit/$2.80- for the spelt variety. Compared to supermarket prices (that are almost double this amount), these prices are very attractive. (Postage inclusive within the respective prices and ‘minimum’ quantities apply.)
For those not familiar with this type of flat-bread, you may need to remember that these breads are not the most flexible and can be notoriously difficult to ‘roll-up’ (regardless of filling) and are known to ‘split’ at the most inconvenient times. However this is the nature of the respective bread and has nothing to do with the overall quality.
The Mountain Bread website, which is extremely ‘user-friendly’, contains a diverse range of recipe ideas for those who require a little ‘culinary’ inspiration. While every Mountain Bread connoisseur is sure to have their ‘favourite’ recipe, our family’s (current) favourite is a modern twist on the traditional ‘scrambled egg’, and is a (slightly healthier) variation of Nigella Lawson’s delectable, ‘Mexican Scrambled Eggs’ (complete with fried Mountain Bread). This dish can be used as a ‘fully fledged’ meal or as an ‘anytime’ snack, depending upon individual requirements. Irrespective of how one devours this dish, it remains a very vocal statement to those who would serve ‘soggy’ bread accompanying their eggs. http://www.nigella.com/recipes/view/mexican-scrambled-eggs-27
While Mountain Bread has been used by many as a substitute for ‘regular’ bread, it can also be used in many other ways; fried (chips), filled (sandwich/wrap), sushi, tart cases, as a ‘pasta’ substitute and even in desserts. For those in need of ‘culinary’ inspiration, Mountain Bread has released their own cookbooks and many delectable recipes can be found on-line. In fact, you can find many magnificent recipe ideas at the below-mentioned links.
