I've never been to Italy, however my boyf used to work in an Italian restaurant with two italian chefs. Because of this, he's quite picky about what feels like 'real italian'. Not to say that two aussies can definitely know... but there's a difference between food done well, and with care and respect for the original recipe, and the alternative! We had heard about La Tombola and made the small trip to Parkside to check out whether it was as good as reviews say!

La Tombola is great, and ticked every box that the boyf could hope for. The antipasto was generous, and I had a beautiful ravioli which featured a wonderful fragrant sauce, and the boyf a pasta dish with veal, which he loved.

The place is very family friendly, and it's always quite bustling so you need to book in advance. It's easy to understand why; the place is no-nonsense, great service, great chilled atmosphere, and you don't have to get super dressed up to enjoy a lovely night out.

Must have been over a decade ago that I went to this establishment. Back then, we weren't exactly treated like customers. I had heard all the good things about this place, but we found it pretentious.

This time however, someone must have lit a cracker up the proverbial! Well done to the team. Fabulous and efficient, the food was worth coming for.

I'll definitely put this one on the list for next time

My husband and I recently tried this restaurant with a few friends as we had heard such great things about it. We certainly were not disappointed.

A very welcoming atmosphere with excellent service and delicious authentic italian food. One of our friends is italian and he said it was the best italian he has had in a very long time. We started with some brushetta and oysters kilpatrick - so fresh and delicious. For mains I tried the spaghetti Marinara and my husband and friend tried the calamari. All our meals were perfect and just loved the presentation.

The meals were a little expensive, but well worth it. Overall, this is an outstanding restaurant with excellent food and service. I highly recommend you try. Also, they have an excellent wine list.

I have been to this restaurant a couple of times and it is always a good time. Tony (owner) is always very welcoming and keen to suggest some meals as well as wine that matches. Hasn't been wrong yet either. This time I had the Insalata Calda Di Calamari and it was really nice.
It isn't cheap but it is a great experience. It is a favourite of mine for sure.

Approximate cost: $32

The host is so attentive and lovely, the food is delicious and a very different atmosphere. It is a bit expensive, but it is the sort of place you go for a special night or something different so it is worth it.

Thanks for your review. I might have to try this place out with my hubby for a special occasion!

It's kind of expensive, but when you compare it with other restaurants, I think it's cheap for the quality and enjoyment!

Recently went here for a special occasion with my other half, and the place was extremely good re customer service. The main meals range around under $30 to under $40. I had the veal fillet and the size was very generous and the meat was cooked to perfection. It cost $35, and well worth the cost for the this meal. My other half had a pasta marinara and was well received as well. It cost about $28. We also had an antipasto for 1 between us and that was $17. A bit expensive for what you got but tasty nonetheless. We capped it off with deserts which were about $15 each and coffees. All in all great place, but a bit pricey. Still would recommend for that special occasion though.

Approximate cost: $35

I first dined here about 15 years ago with my Italian language class and fell in love with it. Since then I have been back several times for functions. It is my all time favourite Italian restaurant. The food is delicious and very high quality. The service is wonderful and friendly. The only thing stopping me going there regularly is the fairly high cost - it is definitely a fine dining restaurant. Overall, I would highly recommend La Tombola for a function or special evening!

Really enjoyed the veal that I had here last night. It was cooked to perfection and went splendidly with the bottle red chosen from a well stocked wine selection. Deserts were simple bit tasty. Service was excellent and personal

One my all time favourite restaurants. The menu here is always pleasing and the food fantastic and fresh. The wines on the menu and on display are exquisite and give you a great range of favourites to choose from

Great italian restaurant that seems to have been there forever. The staff were excellent - some of the best I've come across! Very accommodating and attentive without hovering and making you feel intimidated. The place was very busy which was good considering it was a weeknight.
Food was good however a little overpriced for what it was. I'm sure you can get italian that is just as good for 2/3 of the price.
Decor is a little dated but I think that's part of the charm.

Approximate cost: $25-30
