Kinokuniya is one of the more remarkable facets of The Galeries. Easily accessible from Town Hall Station, Kinokuniya is a veritable slice of heaven for all book lovers.

If you are a quiet browser, then you could become lost in their labyrinthine store for hours. The range of literature stocked in Kinokuniya puts other retailers to shame. A lot of lesser-known books that you have to otherwise special order in are stocked, which makes the book-buying process infinitely smoother. Australian young adult fiction titles, for example, are almost available, which is fantastic.

One of the aspects of Kinokuniya that turn it from a mundane bookstore to a standout is that one is allowed to sit and read. With so many nooks, crannies and comfortable chairs, you are practically invited to sit down and read for a while. I love this option because it solidifies the notion of a bookstore. Bookstores shouldn't just be about purchasing books. They should also be about perusing titles leisurely. As much as this is a business, a bookstore's roots are entrenched in romantic aspects. Kinokuniya celebrates this, as other places do not.

Vast, aesthetically pleasing and with polite staff, Kinokuniya is a must if you are in the city.

whoa you can sit and read now? it used to be 'stand and read but never sit and read'

Wow, really? I never knew that! Every time I've been there over the past few years, I've always sit and read and I've never been told off. Haha I really hope you're allowed to, it's the best part!

I can't find the sit overthere, if I want to sit, I normally go to cafe there and take a sit

I love this book store, it has a wide range of books (Internationally) so I don't have to some of the book internationally and get it shipping over. Although the price for some of the book might be a bit expansive but hey you can only get them in Sydney so yea can't complain.

One of my favourite book stores in Sydney for an amazing range of titles. My sister enjoys reading manga but coming from a design background, I appreciate the magazines they stock and design books that are sometimes hard to find elsewhere.

As a frequent purchaser of manga (graphic novels) I am very grateful to have Kinokuniya and their wide range of manga to choose from. Their staff are always friendly and ready to help you out and the layout of the store is very nice. The costs of the books are a bit pricey however, there are often sales. Their range of international books (ranging from manga that is still in its original language to novels) and updated magazines is very impressive.

Their stationary section is also very impressive with lovely, unique items of exceptional quality (although quite expensive).

Very similar to Borders, this place takes it a step further by offering other bits and pieces as wel, such as stationary, toys and also a large selection of international books, mags and comics! A good place to go if you're after manga, although the prices are quite hefty!

The bookshop is large and holds a wide range of books. There are also specialty gifts imported from Japan although they tend to be costly.

There are a great range of books and the Chinese and Japanese sections are quite extensive. Apart from books, there is also stationery (from Japan) as well as toys which are great as gifts.
