A beautiful theatre, but the seats were too narrow. My pelvis only just fit in and I had to sit with my arms propped up on my lap or on the arm rests. Those with narrow hips sat comfortably with their arms at their sides which is discriminatory to those with curves. Other cinemas have comfortable seats, but this one has been designed for men and women with narrow hips.
It was a stand off at 9:59 a.m., a group of elderly people, some leaning on their sticks, waiting in the oppressive heat for the door to open and being glared at by the staff from the interior. The sign on the door said 'door opens at..(clock face saying five to ten).
A woman came to the door after 10 and flipped the sign then unlocked the door from the other side. She stomped off. No, she didn't bother to open the door, apologies, greet or welcomed us. I opened and held the heavy door for the others.
We bought our tickets then waited longer until this woman lumbered upstairs to open the door to cinema 4. As she did she spat these words at us: THERE! GO IN AND LOOK AT THE CURTAINS!
It seems she finds us ridiculous to be seated for more than five minutes before the movie is due to open. The fact that the audience were all elderly (though they made it up the stairs faster than her) and wanted time to settle did not stop her from showing her contempt. We were there to be entertained and not to suffer the staff's hostility and rudeness.
I go there because I can walk there but next time I want to see a movie I'll get on a bus. Anywhere but the Hayden Orpheum.
Take a trip to the 1940's with this beautiful theatre. The Decor is exquisite and the seating is comfortable. Pricing food and tickets is good. Conveniently located on Military Road with parking out the pack in Parraween street available.
Approximate cost: $15
Service and value is great and its nice to see that this theatre does 3d unlike some others, but i hate how the screens are quite small and some rooms are quite squished, but i like how the theater looks olden days edge to it
This is the best cinema in Sydney- great variety in the programming, stunning art deco surrounds and cheap popcorn. Turns going to the movies into a real night out.
Love this cinema! Feels a lot more personal and comfortable than the big cinemas and is just a quaint enjoyable experience...sometimes for new movies they even have a guy playing the piano pop up in the cinema to play for a while before the movie begins. Just a great cinema experience in a lovely area.
I hate those big multiplex cinemas so The Orpheum is a treat with its art deco gorgeousness, you feel like you've stepped back in time. Excellent choice of new releases and world cinema. Love it!
Approximate cost: $16
Good selection of movies from blockbusters to international movies. Cute unique theatres with interesting interiors. You feel like you've gone back in time a few decades. More of an experience and less commercial than the chain cinemas.
