Just discovered this niche little place over the weekend, I'd been to Prahran market before and never realised it was here. Its just to the side of the market entrance near ALDI and has a huge range of Japanese speciality groceries. Was thrilled to find some very obscure items that I can't find anywhere else and they keep toro in stock as well. Range is very good; but they are missing a lot of critical items that are available elsewhere to make it an ideal 'one shop stop' for all things Japanese.

The best place to buy Japanese groceries in Melbourne. They have the largest range and therefore you will find "rare" Japanese products. Located next to ALDI/Prahran market, I highly recommend shopping here if you love Japanese food.

If you are after Japanese cooking materials this is the place to go to. They sell all kinds of imported Japanese products to make your life a little easier. They also sell other Asian products but better buy those at other Asian grocery stores since anything other than Japanese products are more expensive here. The Japanese products here are well priced compared to other grocery stores. It's self serve but the staff were always polite.

i used to be in love with this japanese grocery store. im not otaku per say but i loved all the cool little homewares (they have about 40% of the store devoted to homeware) like a tiny can of glue spray and a mop-broom combo and unique food products like korean bacchus-d energy drink (their equivalent of red bull, and infinitely better), sencha green tea, takoyaki chips and these awesome sake and and soft drink cans.

but beyond the hype and awesomeness of tinier, sexier japanese products, they are actually expensive (much of their homewares section is flat priced at $2.50 per item when most of it is worth little more than $1) and at some point you've got to ask yourself, do i really need this tiny can of glue spray?

i still cannot believe the older woman who seems to run the place tried to argue with me about the redemption of my stamp card and tell me i couldnt use the reward until 'next time'...

basically stop here to grab your korean bacchus-d and your 20c udons but expect fake smiles and eyes following you out the door.

This is undoubtedly the best shop for Japanese food and sake in Melbourne. It is where all the Japanese expats shop and is priced accordingly, however it is almost like being in Japan. If you have lived in Japan and now miss a particular product, chances are you will find it here.

this is a one stop shop for all your japanese groceries. the russell street branch even has plum wine are remarkably cheaper prices than dan murphys.

Approximate cost: $5
