According to their website, the ‘Blessed Earth’ business was conceived in 2004 by Radha, Theresa and Raithe Handiman.’ Since this time, their business has become one of Australia’s few, genuine manufactures of organic, chemical-free, natural, biodynamic, cotton products, complete with ‘Demeter’ certification.
To say that we were thrilled to stumble across this amazing, organic and truly compassionate business would be an understatement. It is with our utmost pleasure and satisfaction that we rate this business.
Due a range of serious allergies and medical concerns, we have turned to a more natural diet and lifestyle. After my son experienced a major (antibiotic) allergic reaction, his skin virtually melted from his body, requiring much intervention and expense. His predicament was so severe that his entire diet and lifestyle had to be reinvestigated and transformed; this inevitably included bathing and clothing procedures. While we were initially skeptical at purchasing ‘organic’ clothing, bedding and other paraphernalia, the combined approach is slowly starting to pay off.
Due to financial constraints, we ordered the basics to get my son through, this included singlets, underwear and a pure woolen pillow. Only hours after placing our order, we experienced a (financial) emergency that prevented us from paying the totality of our order in one payment. While I felt terrible about the inconvenience, the staff at ‘Blessed Earth’ remained understanding and empathetic. Upon our final deposit (a couple of weeks later), our order was instantly dispatched and the goods received in record time.
The items were well packed and arrived in perfect condition. Upon further investigation, we were amazed at the overall quality of the items in question. Never before had we witnessed (or physically felt) such quality in an undergarment, a genuine level of both thickness and softness. Although the items were not seamless, they acted as such in so far as they did not promote itchiness or irritation. Even the corresponding garment ‘tags’ were made of organic cotton to avoid the potential for irritation.
Blessed Earth’s product range is substantial, including ‘metal-free’, biodegradable, handmade, biodynamic, organic, woolen (grown and made in Australia) mattresses, mattress toppers, woolen quilts, woolen pillows, ‘dust-mite’ proof mattress/pillow protectors, blankets, sheet sets, towels, robes, bras, underwear and clothing and a range of other bathroom and household goods. They even stock a minimal range of ‘Natural Timber Bed Bases’, however these are a little on the pricey side. But I guess these days more than ever, one usually gets what one pays for (except perhaps when it comes to the related and often unnecessary range of chemicals we are subjected to on a daily basis by so many companies!)
Considering the fact our bodies are already bombarded on a daily basis with (often) undetectable and undesirable levels of chemicals and poisons, why should we ‘settle’ for the standard ‘run of the mill’ clothing and bedding, especially when safer, healthier and longer wearing, ‘superior’ quality alternatives are available for a similar (new) price? After all, when one responsibly and lovingly cares for one’s family, why would we want those nearest and dearest to us sleeping on bedding of questionable quality (filled/ covered/encased with flame retardants, stain resistant chemicals, formaldehyde and fumes from glues, solvents and heavy toxins. Surely for health and safety reasons, (irrespective of whether one is using preventative measures or trying to lessen the affects on an already overburdened immune system) one would want to distance one’s self from the affect of ‘off gassing’ and the like?
In addition to the ethical products that ‘Blessed Earth’ sells, we were impressed with the additional information that is covered on their website in relation to the afore-mentioned issue. This includes information from the ‘Environmental Protection Agency’ where they state, “the seven of the top 15 pesticides used on cotton in 2000 in the United States as ‘possible’, ‘likely’, or ‘probably’ or ‘known’ human carcinogens are: acephate, dichloropropene, diuron, fluometuron, pendimethalin, tibufos and trifluralin. While there are many, varied, descriptive terms that would sum up this company and its business; ‘environmentally and humanely conscious’, ‘healthy and wise’, ‘ethical and compassionate’ and ‘forward thinking’, while ‘Blessed Earth’ is all of these things and much more, the one we think most appropriate for this WOMOW rating would have to be ‘Very Highly Recommended!’
