My recommendation is stay well away from this place.

Took my 7 month old toy poodle here after it had ingested some snail bait. It was the weekend and so there weren't too many vets open at the time.

After a few minutes of being there the staff had evaluated the dog and a vet came out to talk to me. I was told they had tested its gag reflex but they were not able to get it to throw up. They then said it would require overnight treatment and that it would cost between $3000 and $4000. They said that without treatment the dog would most likely die.

I was shocked. Firstly at the prospect of our puppy dying but also at the extraordinarily high cost of treatment (for one night!). It felt like extortion.

I called another emergency vet centre and discussed the situation. They suggested that the cost of treatment should only be around one quarter to on third of what I was quoted.

I quickly took him out of that place. But not before they charged me over $200 for doing very little.

Within 5 minutes of arriving at the other emergency centre they had the dog throwing up the contents of its stomach. They continued to treat him overnight and the dog was fine the next day. They charged me around $1,000 for treating him + some follow up medication.

Which other vet did you go to that you found to be better?

They were amazing in taking care of our dalmatian.
We didn't think he was going to make it.
But to our surprise and the hard work from the vets he did.
The only down fall was the cost involved it was a shock when we received the final account.

Approximate cost: $2000

The staff at the Point Cook AAE are brilliant. Our cat has been quite ill for the past few years and had a couple close calls which has seen us show up for help a few times late at night. They have also performed her thyroid treatment and I can say I could not be happier with the service and the level of expertise of the vets and the nursing staff, particularly Kate who is always bright and cheerful extremely early in the morning.

The only drawback is that it is VERY expensive to take your animal there - it is an emergency centre after all. I would say if it's not an emergency or you are not using their specialist services, head to your local vet instead. Otherwise, know that your pets are in great hands.

We had our cat taken here for a blocked urethra, we were advised he would need to stay in overnight while the blockage was cleared. We took the cat home the next day only to have the exact same issue that same day, we obviously didnt take him back here but opted for another vet. Needless to say we were charged 1/4 of the price and told that the medication that was given to the cat to take at home was not even the correct medication and it should have not been given this for this condition. The problem was fixed at the next vet for literally less than 1/4 of the price. Unfortunately from my experience it seems this vet is more driven on profit rather than to care for the animals.

Approximate cost: $3500

oh no what a shame!

Hi Carlm1, Sorry for your experience. That is not what we are about. Could you send us some contact details so we can discuss. I know there is no way our team would have dispensed the wrong medications for you cat. I hope he is doing fine and we would like to talk about what you experienced.

Picked up my Dad's dog from the Animal Hospital - late at night - after having gone missing earlier that day. Lovely people, very helpful and did not charge. To me that means honest. Worth your consideration

My dog got a bone wedged in his jaw which required emergency surgery at the (Point Cook) clinic. The staff were amazing and so so thorough they may has found he has an underlying illness which may have gone untreated if not for some blood tests. Tim went above and beyond what was required and my little Oscar is resting beautifully. Thank you thank you

They looked after my pet in difficult circumstances. They have done great work with other pets of mine. Everyone should have their details in their emergency numbers, especially after hours.

On 28/12/13 we took our cat to Animal Accident & Emergency as it had suddenly collapsed. The staff were extremely helpful and caring and although my cat had passed away the compassion shown by all was greatly appreciated and comforting.

Very handy and a great relief to have a 24 hour emergency vet near by. Had to take my dog in at 2am when he was having breathing difficulties. The vet was kind and reassuring and treated him straight away for his bronchitis.

That's great to know. Animals seem to choose the worst times to get sick i.e. out of vet normal hours. Good to know of another place to go. Thanks.
