With the area rapidly developing, Chief Nursing and Midwifery Officer Alanna says that a dynamic and innovative director of nursing and midwifery will be a vital addition to lead the team to meet the growing needs of the area.
Additionally, the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital is also recruiting for this position - meaning two lucky candidates will be able to join the Metro North Health team. 🌟
"The candidate should be highly motivated, and ready to lead this directorate to provide the best healthcare for a growing community," Alanna said.

It will almost be 45 years to the day when nurse Angela first started in the renal unit at the RBWH on 4 June 1979, which is why she has chosen the special date to be her last working day as a nurse.
Angela was part of the establishment of the satellite dialysis unit at Sandgate (which has since relocated to Redcliffe Hospital) which was the first satellite dialysis unit in Australia.
"I have always been fascinated by kidneys. The satellite facilities have been a great love of my life other than my family, but it is time to hang up my cannulas and stethoscope," Angela said. ♥️
"I have had the pleasure of working with technology and watching that change over the years and being able to get to know patients on a deep level that they become part of your family - I look after them how I would like to be looked after.
"I’m a gardener I will get back into quilting, a bit of travelling, and road trips."

A person's Rhesus type is determined by a pair of genes, each one inherited from one parent. Blood is either Rh-positive or Rh-negative, depending on whether the inherited protein is present or absent.
But what happens in the situation where a pregnant mother has rhesus negative blood and the baby in utero has rhesus positive blood? We chat to Dr Renuka, the clinical lead for maternal fetal medicine at RBWH about the topic. 👩🍼
"Rhesus disease is a condition where antibodies in a pregnant woman's blood attack her baby's blood cells, and if left untreated it can cause the baby to become anaemic and develop newborn jaundice," Dr Renuka said.
"We now have the ability to test the fetal blood type from 12 weeks like a NIPT test, using the mother’s blood. If you are RhD negative, with negative antibodies and the baby is positive, you will be offered Anti-D immunoglobin to avoid forming antibodies. In some mothers, due to the high risk of baby being anaemic, their babies will require blood transfusions in utero."

After undergoing a laryngectomy, Brien spent the next 18 years helping others going through the same thing, volunteering as a Laryngectomy Support Visitor in RBWH’s speech pathology department.
Brien's procedure meant the removal of his voice box, which can lead to significant changes to the way that patients communicate, breathe and swallow.
As the sole Laryngectomy Support Visitor in Brisbane for nearly two decades, he has spent so much time with patients and their families prior to their operations, which gave them the opportunity to ask questions to someone who has experienced the surgery firsthand.
“I try to keep it happy for them. I crack a few jokes. I’m trying to show them that life goes on after this operation. I’ve travelled the world and lived a full life," Brien said. 🥰
