This family run business now has 3 outlets but i usually.patronise the one at the Island Markets. The owner always cooks here and wil adapt his dishes to your requests. I have tried most of his dishes and all of them are reasonable and made to order. The servings are plentiful and his helpers polite and super helpful Highly recommended.

The Venezia opened without much fanfare where "Gilbeys" used to be and as it is just a short walk from where we live we popped in on a week night and found it nice and busy. The owner/waitress is not Italian but assured us that her hubby is descended from a long line of Italian chefs and it certainly showed in the meals we received. The lady in charge [the owner] allowed me to choose where i wanted to sit and had an excellent sharp sense of humour. Always a good sign in my opinion. As it was a very warm evening my wife chose a chilled sauvigon blanc and this was promptly brought to our table. The cooler bucket however had the ice only at the bottom which is a pity but this can soon be remedied by adding water from the water bottle. I ordered the "Rigatoni Amitriciana" which is a favourite of mine of which i have indulged many in diverse restaurants. It is edifying to experience different chefs versions of a popular Italian dish.
My better half fancied the special veal dish which was served smothered in a creamy sauce and kept her in raptures for quite a few minutes. My entree portion was more than enough for me and though very different to other restaurants was better. Half way through we exchanged samples and next visit i will definitely choose the veal special if it is on. My wife loves deserts and i encourage her to have them as it allows me to taste them as well as maintaining the moral high ground by not over indulging. This night she chose the Venezia Tartuffo and when it arrived it not only looked impressive but it tasted even better and was sufficient to feed us both ! It turned out to be a speciality of the owners and could be a signature dish.
Well done to the owners of the Venezia truly amazing authentic italian food in Geilston Bay. We hope many more people take the short worthwhle drive out to this fine restaurant which also has plenty of parking.

We had frequented the York hotel previously and decided to revisit so as to compare their $10 meals with other food outlets such as the Shamrock and the Sawak Cafe at island markets. The first thing to strike one is that the new bar is completely rebuilt and the old pool room has undergone a tasteful refurb and looks like a dining room. Personally we would have gone with fewer candelabras but then we are merely punters. The Boags draught 10oz. were $4 each and were freezing cold as they should be. As i was carrying our lagers through to the restaurant area i was approached by afriendly young waitress who told me we could sit anywhere as they were not too busy. In fact by the time my wife and i had ordered we were the only patrons in the restaurant area but a little later another couple appeared and also ordered food. Because we were all alone i requested that the chef crisp up our chips some more as this is how we really like them. We had both ordered the Scallops;chips and salads and within a few minutes the meals were brought to us on a plate which also held a small ramikin of a sauce resembling tartare sauce. At this juncture the other two patrons had yet to arrive which makes it more remarkable that instead of our chips being extra crispy the very young looking chef had done some extra crisping to our battered scallops which made them resemble toasted marbles. Surely by now even a young and possibly inexperienced chef must know how to cook scallops !!?? The sauce was thin and runny and devoid of taste but the worst was yet to come. In Hobart especially it is unforgiveable to serve an old limp and slithery salad. To receive this poor standard of food on an obviously first visit is incredibly cavalier and reckless to boot. It is of no use at all in claiming that they serve delicious meals when they are clearly not and pouring money down the drain on decor while neglecting the food quality. Take a visit to your opposition and then have a word with the chef. We certainly wont be back.

We tried the new cheap menu and the burger was quite alright for $2 but even at this price could do with some raw onion and lettuce but hey-ho it is what it is and the $1 thick shake was really good value and more than lived up to expectations. My wife and i are both well travelled and have lived in Africa as well as Europe but have never seen an establishment selling food in such an unhygienic state. We both started our visit by going to the toilets and i found the mens toilet grubby but not offensively so. I finished my oblutions first and hovered outside waiting to possibly rescue my wife from the cloud of flies buzzing around this area of the
joint. When my wife exited her toilets she was busy waving her arms around to scare the flies away. While going in we had noticed the spilled icecream lying in blobs on the floor and it was still there 20 minutes later when we left !!?? Having seen a member of staff walking around we thought that someone would soon start cleaning up but we were badly and sadly wrong. We moved our seating once to try and find a cleaner table but it was quite obvious that all of the tables were littered with left over food and even the cleaner tables were badly in need of some old fashioned elbow grease! [effort and a damp cloth] withinn the eating area were two plastic cones warning of wet floors ? Possibly, somr time ago and possibly in the future but definitely not within hours of our visit. Apart from the food attracting flies the strewn chips, icecream and paper are definitely extreme slipping hazards and really off putting to us as diners. While eating we discussed why the manager was so blissfully unaware of the disgraceful state of her restaurant

When in doubt as to what we want to eat in celebrating something my better half and i for some reason or other often choose a champagne breakfast. There is something indulgent in this and surrounding diners will often ask us as to what we are celebrating. On Saturday we arrived late at Timeless way which was very busy. We were shown to table right below a heater but later moved to accommodate a large group of young French students who obviously wanted to eat together.
Our charming waitress [dutch] thanked us profusely for our change of table and took our order which was the island breakfast. The owner
then came and chatted for a while and he fetched us our bubbles which he served correctly
by resting it on a slurry of melting ice in a proper ice bucket. This seems to be a lost art as most modern restaurants put ice in a bucket and if the ice isnt melted only the glass bottom of the bottle gets chilled. As every dish is individually prepared and cooked at this establishment we were prepared for a bit of a wait which is understandable. When our dishes arrived we were not dissapointed. The poached eggs were steaming hot and everything else was grilled in a very healthy way. Lrge mushrooms, haloumi, and the best chorizo i have ever had outside of Spain. Two slices of hot wholewheat toast also arrived in a basket and wrapped in a linen cloth to keep them warm. At $16 a plate the meals are not the cheapest but the quality is superb and the attention to detail is beyond compare. We were told that they have been open for 8 years and will be opening in Kingston in the near future. Well done to the owner and his eclectic team.

When driving past this inn it is difficult to ascertain what is going on inside ! From the outside it is unpresupposing but my wife who has recently been walking to work has been able to see inside and eventually convinced me to give it a try. We went in tonight thursday and i was pleasantly surprised by the standard of refurbishment which had been lavished on this old establishment. The decor is eclectic but definitely leaning to "art deco" while the furnishings is again difficult to pinpoint as it is a mixture of old sumptious couches and arm chairs in the sitting/lounge area but the dining area consists of bare hard wood tables. The art work adorning the walls is tasteful and unobtrusive.Safe to say the whole inn is well done and it all works to such a degree that i began to worry that the food might fall short. I need not have. My wife and i both ordered the braised lamb at $15 dollars a plate and we werent dissapointed. The lamb is served on excellent mashed potatoe with an equally excellent gravy but the veggies didnt pale in comparison. A generous portion of caulieflower, broccoli, carrots and zucchini were the veg and were all perfectly al dente. Well done to the chef.
As the inclement weather was keeping us in we accompanied the meal with a bottle of Grant Burge merlot [$28] and finished off much later with very good flat whites at $3.50. When we arrived quite a few tables were busy and more people arrived later. We can forsee much busier times ahead for this fairly new eatery. They certainly deserve to be even busier.

Wife and i almost missed lunch owing to rediculous
5 minute parking regulation outside this restaurant and had to park a fair distance away and walk back. We were glad we did mind as we were blown away by the food. My wife ordered the chicken satay and i the lamb chops. The satay arrived first in a big bowl and was declared very good by better half. My chops arrived a little later and the size of the meal explained why the waitress couldnt carry both meals at the same time. OK, so the chops werent cutlets but the barbecue chops which came were huge and very tender. They came doused in a gravy but this couldnt disguise the wonderful flame grilled flavour. TWO real plusses for this pub are the chips which were even better [in my humble opinion] than most other restaurants which also make good chips. Thes were crisp on the outside and fluffy inside. They were also served very hot and retained their heat. the second plus for a pub is that the salad was substantial, fresh with crispy leaves and well dressed. Well done and keep it up.
Both meals cost $10 dollars and this is now really raising the bar amongst Hobarts restaurants. We cant wait to try their T-Bone steaks but only wish the council would relax the parking for lunch time visitsAlmost forgot to mention the excellent Boags black beer. BLISS !.

This club is now opening on Thursday evenings between 5:30 and 7:00 pm for what they describe as $10 roasts. I only saw the advert on thursday and immediately booked our table for 2. We arrived early and had a 10 oz lager each in the friendly bar. Before going in to dine i bought a bottle of cabernet/merlot from the very friendly barlady and was shocked by the price which was only $15. I Did not tell this to my better half and let her try it first as she is an expert on red wines. She was delighted with the "nose" and even more so with the taste. She described it as excellent and when i informed her as to the price she couldnt believe it! So even though it is priced at $15 dollars this is definitely not plonk. We were offerred a choice between beef, pork or lamb and our food was delivered to our table.[apparently when very busy diners are requested to fetch their food from the kitchen hatch which will be a pleasure in the future when we return.] We each received plenty of home cooked lamb and this was accompanied by roast potatoes, pumpkin, peas and
al dente carrots with mint sauce.Proper unpretentious food at a "fair dinkum" price. We wolfed down our grub and were chatting over our wine when the lady in charge came over and offered us a pudding. The choice was between a sundae and a banana split. We chose the splits. Wife chose chocolate sauce and i the caramel. Luckily and cleverly we were only offered the puddings a fair time after finishing our roasts because when they arrived they were not only well presented but massive in quantity and included marshmallows with 3 scoops of delicious ice cream
At $4 a pudding the club should be heaving with customers in the future. The club is open to the public and well worth a visit!
