To be perfectly honest, I've never eaten there. However, it's a regular coffee place for me and I've never been served a mediocre one. Those baristas really know what they're doing!

They have free wifi and very comfy couches and chairs, so it's mostly populated by uni students so the whole vibe is very hipster (there's also an exhibition space in there). The music is quite loud and it can get a bit crowded. If you're not averse to arts students and you like your coffee, you'll fit right in.

This place is really tiny, so it's always packed. However, don't let this deter you - if they tell you you need to wait for a table, it's worth the wait.

The food is eclectic, as seems to be the trend nowadays, and the coffee served here is easily one of the best in the area. I had the Moroccan lamb which was amazing - definitely recommended! The table next to ours had the Bubble and Squeak and that looked amazing too - that's going to be my next order there!

The food is admittedly pretty good and the menu is fairly eclectic. The servings sizes are ok but definitely not generous. Coffee is also ok but nothing to write home about.

The decor is very funky - I got the feeling that they spent a bit too much on decorating the place and as a result they are understaffing to make up for it. Service takes a while and they've possibly crammed a few too many tables in the place.

Bottom line: in an area like Kew/Hawthorn, there are other places with better service, bigger portions and better coffee for the same price.

Approximate cost: $20

They have a new 'Bookroom' upstairs and it looks amazing! Apart from the decor (make sure you look up), the food is great - our table ordered quite a few homemade pies and they were all fantastic and very, very filling. Haven't tried the coffee yet but the service is lovely too.

Bonus: If you get talking to the owner about books, he'll be very happy to oblige!

Approximate cost: $10-20

These guys are very new on the scene. Great coffee, amazing service. Food is better than what the price point indicatesvand the portions are generous. It's always quite busy out the front but do ask them for a table - the place is deceptively small!

The desserts are also very good - the opera torte is definitely recommended!

We went there late on Sunday night for dinner. All three of us were tempted by the Sunday roast, which was fantastic! Very tasty and very good selection of veggies to go with it. The only thing I wasn't so sure about was the pineapple - never had pineapple with roast before and I think I'll ask them to skip it next time round.

The service is great - friendly, professional, not pushy at all. He was also hilarious and very good at recommending things to try.

Tiny place in Fitzroy. Great coffee. Great service. They have a big communal table on one side of the place and little tables on the other which makes for interesting, and hip, seating. Very little to complain about!

We went there as a group of three and it was perfect. It's a somewhat cramped place but that's really the only drawback.

The food is fantastic - we had a korma, a saag and a fish dish and they were all perfect. I've been to places where the saagwalas aren't really saags - just non-descript curry with a few bits of spinach floating around, but this is the real deal! The korma is very creamy and the fish cooked just right.

We also ordered probably a bit too much roti and rice (the rice is very fragrant!) so unfortunately we didn't get to try the desserts. It's too bad that I live in Victoria and this is in Canberra! Otherwise I'd be there all the time during winter.

Approximate cost: $25-30

The coffee here is ok - the beans aren't that great which they can't really do too much about since it's a franchise and it's in a food court. The service, though, is great. While we were waiting for my latte the lady told me she'd make another one after she made the first one because it had too much foam. That's service!
