This review is for Captain Nemo's, Eight Mile Plains QLD

I asked this company to attend my property to provide a quote for an above ground pool to be installed in the ground. A representative showed up on time with a folder containing details about the pool we were after, but no information relating to Captain Nemo's - not even a business card. The "quote" given was some handwritten guesstimates on the back of the pool folder. Silly me paid a deposit, as requested, to 'get the ball rolling'. A few days later I emailed the company (it was the only contact details I had for the guy who had come to give the "quote") advising that we would have to cancel the proposed pool due to some unexpected financial circumstances. I was advised at this point in time that the deposit was non-refundable. This was a massive surprise to me given that I had not been advised of this prior to, at the time of or after paying the deposit. Furthermore I had not signed a contract or order form and I had not been provided with an official quote to "accept". I pointed these facts out to the company who do not seem to care. They claim that they had ordered the pool and were already out of pocket - something I find difficult to comprehend given they had done nothing aside from provide a handwritten guesstimate and they are a pool supplier - the pool we were interested in was a standard pool - in no way customised. I fail to see how the company can possibly be out of pocket for having a pool they sell in stock.
The company refused to refund our deposit on the basis that their "terms and conditions" state deposits are non-refundable. We pointed out that we have never seen those terms and conditions or been advised about them and asked to see a copy. This request was also refused.
We are currently filing a dispute with the Office of Fair Trading.
I would never recommend this company to anyone and feel like an idiot for having ever dealt with them in the first place.

This review is for Cheap As Chips Tree Lopping, Browns Plains QLD

I found an ad in our local paper for these tree loppers. I called them and they came out on the same day to provide a quote. I didn't bother comparing the quote as I felt the prices given to me were exceptional and I had rung other companies but they hadn't bothered to show up, let alone call me.
Michael turned up on the day he said he would. He was a little later than I was expecting him, but he got straight into the job and was happy to do more than I had originally asked him to do.
Michael and his team did a fabulous job and cleaned up extremely well. He disposed of all the debris on our behalf. In total we had 13 trees lopped to ground level, some large, some small. I was very very happy with the job and would recommend Michael to anyone and will use him again, should the need arise.

I have seen this restaurant but had never tried it until tonight. We got taekaway and decided to go for a family pack (Pack C) plus a couple of extra entrees. The pack said it would feed 5-7 people - there were 3 mains, 2 rices and 2 entrees. Even with our additional entrees, this would most definitely not feed 5-7 people. It was, however, plenty for 4 adults. At a total cost of $68, I don't think the cost was expensive, compared to other restaurants.
The food itself was delicious. We were surprised and very happy with the quality and taste of the food. We are sure to be regular customers now!! My husband said the restaurant looked lovely inside when he went in to collect our order and he would be happy to dine in or take friends there and he said the service was good.
Would definitely recommend this restaurant!

This review is for Hinchy's Air Conditioning, Shailer Park QLD

I rang Alan and asked for a guestimate which he gave me over the phone. He was able to come and confirm the quote the next day and, once I had accepted his quote, he was able to come back and actually install our air conditioner that day.
He worked fast and professionally and did a great job for a great price. Couldn't be happier.
Am having him come back next week to service our other air conditioners.

This review is for Fair Dinkum Insulation, Woodridge QLD

verified email - 15 Apr 2010

I found this company on a website which listed them as an accredited supplier/installer. I did not know very much about insulation and found that each company I rang told me that the type of insulation they sold through their company was "the best".
Fair Dinkum sold different types of insulation. They came to my house, arriving on time, and explained the different types of insulation available and what would be best suited to my house and why. Two men came to the house to provide the quote and both were extremely knowledgeable about their products and the pros and cons of each different type of insulation. They answered all of my questions and did not seem to mind the multiple questions I was asking them. Plus, they gave me a mobile number to call if I thought of anything else to ask (which I did after discussing with my husband and father) and I called that number. The guy was busy when I called but called me back promptly. I was very impressed.
We went with this company and had foil insulation installed (we have an old home with a tin roof and no roof sarking so foil was the best option). The men arrived on time and carried out the job in a fast and professional manner. Despite the recent bad publicity about foil insulation, we are very happy with ours. It does exactly what we were told it would and we have had no problems with it at all.
Our insulation costs were covered by the government subsidy however if I ever have a need to install insulation at a different property I will have no hesitation in using Fair Dinkum again.
Fair Dinkum also quoted accurately - they charged for the actual job rather than stating the job would be for the maximum amount the government was paying. This also impressed me as I had had previous companies come in and not even measure up! Fair Dinkum proved themselves to be professionals not rip-off merchants taking advantage of the government's insulation rebates.
Fair Dinkum has been the best insulation company I have ever dealt with (I have had quotes and work done at other properties in the past).

I have had massages at this business. The therapist was always friendly and professional and did a great job. I have never had to wait more than 5 minutes for my therapist and I have never had difficulty in booking a massage when I needed one.

This review is for Babycare Nursery, Cabramatta NSW

I purchased a pram from this company, by telephone, on a Monday. The pram was delivered to my door (in Qld) on Wednesday morning. The price of the pram was not the cheapest available but was cheaper than most places. The shipping costs (which included insurance) were very reasonable (only $20 to Qld).
The staff were professional, friendly and very helpful.

The pram began having problems when it was 9 months old. It came with a 12 month warranty. The staff at Babycare Nursery were professional and helpful when it came to making arrangements to have the pram returned to the manufacturer for repair, however things changed dramatically when it became apparent that the pram could not be repaired and, due to the particular pram having been discontinued and therefore impossible to replace, I was entitled to a refund. Unfortunately the store has refused to provide me with a full refund of the purchase price and I am currently lodging a complaint through the Department of Fair Trading.

I am very disappointed with the final outcome of my dealings with this company.

This review is for Beenleigh Electrical Appliance Repairs, Beenleigh QLD

We had a washing machine repaired - they came to the house and were wonderful so we used them again when our dishwasher broke down. They charged a quotation fee (which was fair enough I guess) but when we paid that and accepted their quote they "fixed" the dishwasher and we paid for it and collected it but it wasn't fixed so we took it back and they wanted hundreds of dollars more for spare parts etc. This wouldn't have been unacceptable if we hadn't paid them initially to pull the thing to bits and ascertain the problem. But, if they made a mistake and thought the problem was one thing then they should have worn the cost of their mistake. We ended up having to threaten legal action just to get the machine back (which we had paid more for). The machine has now run through 3 or 4 washes before it broke down again - so obviously they just did a quick get them out of the mud job.
Not happy and will never use them again.

This is a small salon with hair dressing, nails and makeup.
Their pedicures and manicures are very good. Their hair-styling is great but their makeup services are pretty average.

Not bad value for money though
