This review is for Pets At Peace, Camden NSW

When we had to have our elderly dog put to sleep, we had Pets at Peace cremate him. They picked his body up from the vet, cremated him, and sent his ashes back to us a couple of weeks later. We chose a scatter box for his ashes so we could bury them at home (they also offer urns and permanent boxes).
His remains came back packaged beautifully, in a lovely box with a faux rose on top and a hand-made tag with his name, inside the box the remains (in plastic) were inside an organza bag, with potpourri scattered in the box. It was lovely and really gave the impression that he'd been treated with dignity and care. It was a great comfort to be able to bury his ashes at home.
If you're unfortunate enough to lose a pet, I'd recommend this service - it's a little expensive but totally worth it.

This review is for The Surgery At Jerra, Jerrabomberra NSW

I saw Dr Suzanne Ward at this surgery after being bothered by an intermittent minor problem for a few months, which I was fairly sure was probably nothing but decided it'd be best to get checked out. She said that while she was fairly certain that she knew what it was, and it was nothing to worry about, she'd organise a test to confirm her diagnosis. The test results proved her initial diagnosis to be correct (but a slightly different version of the same issue). I was really impressed that she confirmed the diagnosis, as she probably didn't have to, but it made me feel much better knowing for a fact what was wrong with me. Her helpful advice also allowed me to do what was necessary to reduce the severity of the issue as well.
So, if you're looking for a friendly, approachable female doctor who will give you good, practical advice, I'd strongly recommend Dr Ward.

Greenhouse Emporium is a shop retailing eco-friendly products, a cafe, and also a retailer for many environmental home-improvement products (insulation, heating/cooling systems etc).
The cafe is great - they do lunch on weekdays which is mostly rolls and cakes, but all are fresh and tasty, and do all-day breakfast on Saturdays (which is both inexpensive and delicious). Their coffee is always fantastic, and you get a discount if you bring your own cup (and if you haven't already got your own, they sell 'Keep-Cups' which are standard-sized reusable take-away plastic coffee cups). Service is always friendly and the atmosphere is comfortable and relaxed.
The range of environmentally friendly products is diverse, the prices are reasonable and they always have new interesting things. The only negative - there are not always staff available to provide assistance in the retail part of the shop, although you can pay for purchases at the cafe.

After a few frustrating experiences with various businesses over the years, I was delighted to find a way that I can share my experiences so that others don't have to go through the same dramas again - and to see other people's review so I don't need to deal with another bad business! It's also great to share good experiences with businesses that work hard to keep their customers happy, and hopefully send more customers towards small, great, businesses that rely on word-of-mouth for most of their business.

Haven't had any of my dogs groomed here, but I have used the do-it-yourself hydrobaths which are a cheaper option if like me, you're happy to bathe the dog yourself but don't have the facilities to give them a warm bath and blow-dry at home. The hydrobaths are each individually fenced so if your dog proves to be a bathtub escape artist, they can't go too far. Towels, waterproof apron and some basic grooming implements provided, and you can also purchase a single-use sachet of shampoo if you haven't brought your own. Great if you just want a basic wash for a dog that won't fit into the laundry tub!

Approximate cost: $20 for medium-large dog, depends on size

I visit regularly for coffee, which is usually very good. They give you a scoop of mini M&Ms on your takeaway coffee too, which is a nice touch. Have had light snack there but never a proper meal, although the food I see them serving up to people who have time to stay for a meal always looks good.

This review is for Kent Moving & Storage, Queanbeyan NSW

verified email - 21 May 2009

We recently had Kent move a few pieces of furniture (only the stuff we couldn't move ourselves, no packing required) between a house in Canberra and one 20mins down the road in Jerrabomberra.
Kent wanted to charge us a flat rate for the move, and determined we needed 3 men for 5 hours to move our furniture.
When the guys turned up, there were only 2 of them, and they did everything well within 4 hours. We felt we'd been over-quoted and since we'd had to pay the full fee up-front, we requested a partial refund, to bring the price down to what it would have cost for only 2 men for the quoted 5 hours.
It took nearly a month and a lot of follow up phone calls to get Kent to finally respond to our request, and they only offered approximately half of the refund we requested.
Given that they insist on payment up-front, and they over-quoted so significantly, it felt like they were trying to rip us off. That, combined with the long wait to get any response from the company after the move, led me to my conclusion - I wouldn't recommend them to anyone.
On the plus side, the guys who actually did the move were really good, they didn't damage any of the furniture and were very helpful. The administrative people in the company were the ones who let the whole thing down.
