This review is for Chocolate @ No. 5, Hahndorf SA

If you want yummy chocolate things, this is the place to go! However, be prepared to spend a lot of money. I ordered the waffles to share with my daughter and was surprised to find that "waffles" meant just one waffle. Yes, it was a big one but I was expecting more than one given the menu said waffles. $10 for a very large cup of hot chocolate was a lot to pay also but it was delicious and made with real belgian chocolate. All in all, it was definitely a yummy experience but I don't think I got my money's worth.

This company was able to help at short notice with a small local job and the owner of the business was helpful and friendly. I was able borrow a trailer free of charge, an extra service for customers. The hourly rate was comparable to other local companies. The men and truck arrived on time but we were not impressed by the men. One man constantly made disparaging remarks to his co-worker and the other man commented unfavourably about some of our possessions. They seemed to take their time and were either unable to efficiently move items or stalling to make the job take longer. When we looked at the paperwork later, we realised that liability for damage to the premises or belongings during transport was limited to $20! Insurance was included for damage during loading or unloading but any damage to items during transit for items was not included. I'm glad no damage occurred!
At the end of the day, the job was completed without incident but we wouldn't use this company again or recommend it. They simply weren't professional or a pleasure to invite into our home.

This review is for Thanh Thanh, Adelaide SA

We picked this restaurant on reviews we read online and weren't disappointed. Thanh Thanh is down a side street and has an unassuming shop front but inside was thriving and vibrant with wonderful smells. The waiting staff were attentive and accurate with their order taking and our food arrived promptly. Such big serves! Fresh ingredients and so yummy! I loved the seafood pho (noodle soup) and jackfruit smoothie. For about $22 per person, we had a three course meal. Little things that caught my fancy were the hilarious signs in the toilet showing how to correctly use the facilities and the massive fish in the aquarium at the entrance.
I thoroughly recommend Thanh Thanh for Vietnamese cuisine!

This review is for Ollie Ashenden Children's Shoes, North Adelaide SA

I remember going to Ollie's as a kid for shoes! They have a little kid-sized door that children love going through while the parents use the full size regular door. Ollie's are definitely the experts when fitting shoes and I trust their advice. They only stock excellent quality footwear yet the prices are not inflated. The staff are knowledgeable about what shoes are most appropriate for children with flat feet and other problems. Kids love climbing the steps to sit on the raised fitting station bench. I have never been disappointed when shoe shopping at Ollies.

This review is for Made In Japan, South Melbourne VIC

This is a warehouse type shop without fancy signage, shelving or advertising. Everything is imported from Japan. There's a wide range of tableware and ceramics as well as beautiful kimono fabric, antique furniture and wall hangings. The prices are very reasonable and the products of excellent quality. The ceramics are often handmade and painted. I browsed here for ages before deciding what to buy - there was so much choice!

This review is for Windmill Hill Salvage & Save, Totness SA

Windmill Hill Salvage & Save is a great initiative. Items that are still useable/repairable or simply unwanted and still fine can be donated rather than thrown away at the rubbish tip. In addition, goods can be donated. The staff are individuals with disabilities. Therefore this business recycles, reduces waste and provides employment to the disadvantaged.
I love browsing at Windmill Hill Salvage! It's huge, packed with bargains and amazing things. Contrary to what you might imagine, this is not a place where they sell repaired trash. It's like the biggest Op Shop you've ever seen! There are beautiful fine china tea cups, household items of every description, kitchen electrical goods in almost new condition, all kinds of books, clothes, toys, furniture, building materials, kennels, pet hutches, outdoor furniture - you name it! You could stock an entire home with everything that they have there!
There's EFTPOS and the staff are friendly and helpful.

This review is for Oku Den, Hurstbridge VIC

This is an absolute gem of a shop! The lady who owns the shop is Japanese. She sells beautiful handbags, jewellery, clothing and much more. I love the repurposed jewellery and unique handbags. I can honestly say that I have never seen the same things elsewhere. Everything at Oku Den was completely new to me.
The lady herself was very helpful and friendly and explained where her wares came from and what they were made of but without being pushy or trying to make a sale.
I could have spent hours there. You must go and browse!

This review is for Woodside Boarding Cattery, Woodside SA

verified email - 10 Sep 2013

My cats stayed at the Woodside Boarding Cattery for 10 days while I took an interstate trip. Upon arrival, Sue attached name tags to each carrier and weighed my cats in their carriers. Their weights were recorded on their boarding charts. I brought my cats' bedding and food so that they would be comfortable and fed their normal diet. (This was optional.) My cats stayed in one of the Executive Suites. This was a generously sized room with two large windows looking out onto the garden. The cats could sit on the window sill to sunbake and watch the world go by. There were lounge chairs, a ceiling tall scratching post/climbing gym, litter trays disguised in fake pot plants and a flat screen TV mounted on the wall. My cats seemed at ease very quickly. When I returned, Sue gave me a magnet frame with a photo of my cats during their stay in the cattery. They looked truly relaxed, lying on the lounge chair in the sun. My cats had not lost any weight at all during their stay, an excellent sign that they were not stressed. I was delighted with the care that they received and the quality of the cattery.

This review is for Corso Cafe, Mount Barker SA

verified email - 10 Sep 2013

The cafe is gently lit, making it feel cosy. There are a variety of different size and shape tables including a long one where people can gather and chat. The cafe is under new management and I am delighted with the friendliness of the staff. The food and drinks are unfailingly delicious and well made. The cafe uses local ingredients wherever possible. Definitely more expensive than other cafes for food but the quality at Corso Cafe can't be beaten. I enjoy coming here for a cuppa and breakfast occasionally for a special treat.

This review is for ADRA Op Shop, Mount Barker SA

verified email - 30 Apr 2013

This is easily the best Op Shop in Mt Barker. Although it only opened in 2010, it quickly outgrew the first premises and moved to its current location. When it first opened, I was surprised at how well priced goods were and that the clothing was sorted neatly into sizes and categories to make shopping easy. Most Op Shops have clothing on racks in a jumbled fashion and you have to search to find your size. Not so with ADRA. The ladies who run the shop are unfailingly friendly and will help you look for specific items. They know what they have in stock and all you have to do is ask and they will tell you so you don't waste time searching without success. They have an off site storage area where they keep the bulkier furniture. In a modern development, they have a regularly updated Facebook page where they tell you about the regular sales they have and post photos of furniture that is not on display in the shop due to space constraints. The shop gives away items to the truly needy and truly embodies the spirit of a charitable organization. Recently we cleaned out an elderly relative's home after she went into a nursing home. As per her request, we tried to donate her unwanted furniture and house goods to the Salvos. Two stores refused to take anything and staff at a third store cherry picked the best few items and refused the rest. At that point we decided to take the rest of the goods to ADRA where our donations were welcomed without prejudice. They even took old spring based beds which the Salvos refused because they can't be resold. Instead of selling them, ADRA breaks them up to recycle the steel.
I can't recommend the Mt Barker ADRA Op Shop highly enough!
